It's amazing how even though this wasn't an "action" scene, only a practice run, and there was no enemy danger, it kept the whole theater on the edge if their seats. The average person may never understand the feeling and effect high g-forces has on the body but this film definitely got the message across

Hangman sells the absolute f*** out of this scene. The more I watch it, the more I think he’s intrigued from the beginning, and respects maverick.

It's funny how the rear camera shows a completely stressing and straining Tom Cruise and the front facing camera shows Frank Weisser (the actual pilot flying the canyon) completely calm and controlled.

A real high climb out when he pulled the button to go past 7.5 G's. Just think, those were real naval aviators doing that work for real.

The best reaction is from Admiral Cyclone 🌀 when Maverick paints the target and then pulls the climb, and then again when keeps the target painted until the bombs hit the target.

The other officer does a nice fist pump as if he knew Mav would do it.

first time i watched this movie was on a shitty TV with tv-speakers. then I went to best-buy on black friday and the salesman in the audio department managed to convince me to sit down in one of their demo theatres. The bass in this scene from those speakers felt like it was going to rip my chest out and throw it on the floor. Was so amazing I almost started tearing up at the end of the scene even though I had already watched the movie and knew what was going to happen.

While I do love this movie and what it and its predecessor have done for military aviation over the decades, I still look at this scene and think: "What the audience doesn't know is while this IS some s*it-hot flying for the Super Hornet, well, for my Strike Eagle, it's just Tuesday."
Flew the beast that is the F-15E for 18 of my 32 year career in the USAF, thank you very much.
