If anyone is curious, the hand signals the SU-57 pilot was using were actual signals. He first said, "follow me" then he said "330". "Follow me, heading 330" asking Mav to follow him north back to the base he came from, away from the ship which was south of their position. So, they really did think he was a friendly before Maverick started shooting.

Man...I never would have imagined they could do such a brillant job at the sequel. Everything is phenomenal. Simply phenomenal. Bravo and a standing ovation to all!

For those wondering, the signals back and forth between Maverick and the Su-57 pilot were:
"Hi there! Comms down (radio not working)."
-- "Roll out of turn."
"Comms down."
-- "Heading 3-3-0."
I'm rather surprised Mav didn't know them, even if he's from another era of flight. He should have brushed-up upon returning to flight school, anyway.

Rooster has come so far to be the pilot he is. He suffered a lot of abuse back when he was a drummer

As a 48 year old, recently having to watch a lot of Marvel, Capt. America, Dr. Strange, etc (for family), watching Maverick was water to desert . . . so refreshing and made me feel good. All that kid stuff wasn't meant for me. This was our kid stuff back in our day LOL!

You can tell Tom Cruise was never going to let this be anything other than a fantastic movie, you can feel the passion in every scene. It's been a very long time since I've had that sort of thrill at the Cinema.

I love how he verbatim said Goose's "Do that pilot shit" line in the original

Fun fact: the Su-57's top speed is Mach 2.0. The F-14's is Mach 2.5.

So, yes, actually. Were it not for their missiles, Maverick and Rooster _could've_ outran them. Lots of people assume that these new 5th gen fighters are also faster and longer ranged simply because they're more advanced, but that's not always the case. More to the point, they're often _slower_ than 4th or sometimes even 3rd gen fighters, because the fighters from back then relied on speed a lot more in lieu of stealth or electronic countermeasures.

The beauty of this scene is, the pilot didn’t die, he lives to tell a story.

I can't stress how crazy and intense this was watching this in a premium format like IMAX, Dolby Cinema or XD...I understand people can still vastly enjoy this film from their home, but they made a great decision to wait to release this in theaters. If you didnt see this on a premium format you truly missed out. Made me straight up cry tears of joy

One of the greatest theater experiences of my life. Will never forget it.

The level of movement and action in the air is intense, but what's even more impressive is how well the filmmakers have conveyed what's going on. You can actually understand the maneuvers the pilots are making, and it really adds to the excitement of the scene. It's clear that a lot of care and attention went into making these sequences both thrilling and authentic.

I took my dad to watch this in IMAX, he is a retired Indian Air Force Nav! I swear to God, never saw a grown old man excited like a teen ...men loves their machine for sure!

One of the best dog fight scenes in the history of air combat. Very well choreographed.

I cant get enough of this scene. Ive probably watched it 40+ time. The one line that really hits home is "com-on Mav do some of that pilot shit" holy chills

Everybody is praising Maverick but that SU57 pilot that did that weird move that confused both Mav and Rooster should get some recognition. That was cool as hell

The level of detail in showing the controls when he splits the throttles and opens the wings during combat is top tier. Plus they showed it during the take-off scene, so the audience knew what the wing controls were when he did it again. Just great attention to detail and respect for the audience, that they'd catch on and understand the shots, and how Maverick was doing everything.
