The levator scapulae: You might know it as that muscle on your back by your shoulder blade and neck that always needs a massage 💆🏻♂️ but it’s more than that! Using that long, slender muscle situated in the back and side of the neck right around the shoulder blade properly is going to translate to all kinds of great things, even to improved pull-ups!
OK, anatomy lesson over. ✔️
Using it properly means rotating it downward ⬇️ as you’re doing movements like pull-ups. However, many of us end up with a shoulder blade that’s tipped upward or forward—the exact opposite of what we want. 🙄
You can practice using it properly pretty simply: Anchor a band above ⬆️ your head. Bring one arm over your head and with a straight arm, pull down on the band. Log some reps and focus not just on pulling down on the band, but on rotating, rotating, rotating your levator scapulae down, down, down, as you do. 💪
Connect your mind to your muscles, figure out how to do this, and better pull-ups are in your near future. 💯🔥
