LOL these power-walking lads are so funny to look at but the joke stops in your face when you realise many of them can finish a 5km stretch in 25 minutes.

tip from an ex-racewalking competitor/coach. Keep the elbows bent 90 degrees throughout the arm swing, do not allow the hands to extend more than 6 inches from the mid chest on the forward movement, do not allow the hand to extend behind the same side hip on the backswing. if practiced with light hand weights while walking, no more than 3 pounds for females, no more than 5 pounds for males, the arms automatically adjust for optimal ergonomics. The legs can only move as fast as the arm swing--they work in synchrony. That is why the arm action is so important in driving the body forward--mike

I'm a retired United States Marine and have the typical retirement present: bad knees. I cannot run so I discovered power walking. It is a great way to get a great workout without causing me knee pain.

I wish I would power walk like this in the hood with a reverse fanny pack for drinks looking like my milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard.

My knees get sore from overuse, and I feel like I look like an idiot but power walking is amazing! No pain and I have an awesome workout every time

Shouldn't you guys be showing actual speed of the walker? There is so much slo-mo sections in this video that I'm really confused as to what this type of walking should really look like.

I've been power walking regularly for the last decade and I must say I find his technique really bizarre; it looks like competitive race walking to me, perhaps at a slower pace. If I had been using this kind of unnatural excessive hip and knee action in the absence of any spring in my footstep on a daily basis, I would have ruined my hips and knees completely by this point.

I’ve always thought of power walking as just a good old brisk walk. Don’t worry about technique so much. Choose a nice outdoor spot, pick up the speed, swing your arms. Voilá!

I want to start power walking but this didn't help. It looks more like slightly slower race walking to me.
