How To Prevent Gout Naturally | How To Prevent Gout Attacks Without Medication | Gout Flare Ups

This weeks video idea came to me after a patient asked me what they can do, to help prevent gout attacks.

NETI POT SINUS RINSE BOTTLE BY ABRAHAM THE PHARMACIST:

Approximately 1 In 40 people In The UK Are Affected By Gout, Which Causes Sudden Attacks Of Severe Pain And Swelling In Joints. Here Are My 6 Top Tips To Help Prevent An Attack. Let's Help Those With Gout - Like, Share & Tag Friends Who Need This.

Gout is in fact one of the most common forms of arthritis. We all know someone who suffers from gout so please help spread the word on this video so more people can learn how to prevent an attack.

WHAT CAUSES GOUT

Gout is caused by having too much of the chemical, uric acid, in your bloodstream. Uric acid is the waste product created when the body breaks down purines (a type of protein found in many foods and all of your cells).

Most of the uric acid is passed out with the urine and some from the gut with the stools (faeces). In people with gout the amount of uric acid in the blood builds up. From time to time the level may become too high and tiny grit-like crystals of uric acid may form. The crystals typically collect in a joint. The crystals irritate the tissues in the joint to cause inflammation, swelling and pain - a gout attack.

HOW TO PREVENT GOUT ATTACKS

Lifestyle factors may reduce the risk of having gout attacks. These include losing weight (if overweight), eating a healthy diet and not drinking much alcohol or sugar-sweetened soft drinks. Feel free to watch my video for more detail.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS OF GOUT

Any joint can be affected by gout, but it usually affects joints towards the ends of the limbs, such as the toes, ankles, knees and fingers. Signs and symptoms of gout include:

• Severe pain in one or more joints
• The joint feeling hot and very tender
• Swelling in and around the affected joint
• Red, shiny skin over the affected joint

Symptoms develop rapidly over a few hours and typically last three to 10 days. After this time the pain should pass and the joint should return to normal.

Almost everyone with gout will experience further attacks at some point, usually within a year.

See your GP if you suspect you have gout and it hasn't been previously diagnosed, particularly if the pain keeps getting worse and you also have a high temperature (fever).

It's important that a diagnosis is confirmed because other conditions that require urgent treatment, such as an infected joint, can sometimes cause similar symptoms.

TIP from a fellow sufferer. Treat Gout as a food allergy. Keep a diary of everything you eat and identify your triggers. I found my problem to be wholemeal products such as wholemeal bread/biscuits/cookies/pasta and meat products that use bread crumbs as a filler. (burgers and sausages etc.). I eliminated these from my diet and have been pain free for over two years. I am no expert, just a fellow sufferer and it worked for me. Stay safe and well people.

I’m a gout sufferer and from my research and experience I found the following seem to provide a long term solution to preventing severe gout attacks :
1. Drink plenty of water ( Upto even 16 glasses a day if you feel you are about to have an attack)
2 . Total BAN on Alcohol intake for atleast a year . A little red wine now is fine but not beer or other alcoholic beverages.
3. Cut out red meat, sea food, protein supplements, sugary drinks, processed food and high purine vegetables like spinach, mushrooms or cauliflower though in my case, these vegetables didn’t seem to cause a flare up . I found that egg plant is a notorious vegetable that caused immediate attack .
4. Exercise is absolutely essential but my second attack was caused by walking too much so I switched to riding my bicycle.
5. Swallow crushed raw garlic cloves first thing in the morning on an empty stomach
6. Add turmeric and ginger to the diet
7. Eat a cup of healthy dry fruits and nuts
8 . Tart Cherry juice, low fat milk, celery does wonders.
9. Meditate and get rid of unwanted stress
10. Sleep well for atleast 7 hours a night .
11 . As soon as you feel slight tingling sensation, apply ice to the affected area and upon a severe flare up, apply baking soda mixed with apple cider vinegar to the area
12. Always keep a pain killer and gout medication handy . Febuxostat seems to be a good one . Colchicine is another popular medicine though I haven’t used it yet .
13. Despite following the above, there is every possibility of a sudden gout attack so keep track of the foods that you eat .
14. Eat plenty of vegetables ( with some exceptions) and most fruits
15.Keep getting tested to monitor Uric acid levels and keep a constant check on which foods could be potential culprits .

I sincerely wish and hope that there is a permanent for gout soon . This pain is extremely terrible and I want all people suffering from it to get rid of it forever . Good luck everyone.

Curcumin 95, people. Saved my life. Turmeric Curcuminoids are the deathblow of uric acid crystals in the joints. I suffered from bi-weekly to weekly gout attacks for years until my Cardiologist suggested Curcumin 95 to me. That was 5 years ago and I havent had a single gout attack since.

Celery seed extract; it's cheap and I gave a bottle to a co-worker 10 years ago and he hasn't had an attack since... You're welcome.

I pretty much love a healthy life and have gout in my ankle. I do have sleep apnea and studies last year show a link between the two due to lack of oxygen to the brain.

Giving you all a heads up to avoid *rhubarb* at all costs if you have gout. The plant is high in oxalic acid, which is reputed to inhibit the absorption of iron and calcium and can also aggravate joint problems. I found out the hard way so I can tell all of you.

Good advice thanks. Ive suffered badly for the last month with gout. I do fitness everyday, sprint training and weight training. Some experts say this increases the chances of an attack as you're cells are damaged. Is this true or another myth? I have just bought uric acid cleanse and tart cherry extracts. If this doesnt work long time I'll be on aripurinol.

Thank you, I'm trying to help a friend with info I am finding. Just one comment though artificial sweeteners in soft drinks are just terrible for you. So please don't forget to mention it.

I had gastric bypass on december 10th. This caused a ton of flareups for me. Since I could not longer take a prescription anti-inflammatory, I started taking allopurinol. After taking it for almost three months, i was still getting flareups. So I started taking Turmeric Curcumin (twice a day). I was still getting flareups. I then started taking Potassium Citrate (three times a day). I have been free of grout for a solid month, while taking all three of them. I am still on my rapid weight loss phase of my surgery (I average about 3 to 4 pounds a week). Just an FYI in case it helps anyone else. :)
