Did you know that blue eyes are not really blue?
Contrary to popular belief, the blue color in eyes isn't actually due to the presence of blue pigments. Instead, it's a fascinating result of Rayleigh scattering, a phenomenon where shorter wavelengths of light, like blue, are scattered more effectively than longer wavelengths, such as red or yellow. The color of our eyes is determined by the amount and distribution of melanin in the iris, with blue eyes having less melanin than brown eyes. This scarcity of melanin allows more light to be scattered within the iris, creating the illusion of the color blue.

My daughter was born with blue eyes. I use to get a lot of stares and whispers from people. It’s because she was a black baby with blue eyes. As she got older there like hazel. She gets a lots of compliments.

That is literally how all colors work. Pigment is literally just a compound that reflects the color you see.

That's why my little sister came home from school and started calling me "No color eyes", lol!! 😂
I guess that was her teasing me.

Colors in general do not exist. There are only waves and reflection of waves, which is then interpreted by the brain to help humans/ living creatures to better Understand their environnement

I guess that's why my eye color slightly changes according to my shirt color 💀 and also why may eyes appear grey most of the time

Thats probably why my blue eyes can appear almost gray or green depending on what I'm wearing. When my eyes are red from allergies, the blue really pops. My mom and son both have eyes that are extremely blue

Blue is also super rare to find in nature.

You just described what is a color. If something "reflects that wavelength" that's its color. "pigment" is just reflecting a specific wavelength.

Same goes for everything
There's no such thing as pigment
It is just matter that reflects and absorbs light in a certain way

Your fact was really mind-blowing 😊

That’s how color works. It’s not a lie. We all see the color — all colors based on how light is scattered and reflected. That’s like saying titanium white is a lie — it’s all colors reflected equally… not a lie… that’s how color works. Blue pigment is blue pigment because it does the same thing to light… reflects certain wavelengths above others — blue in that case.

From a biological standpoint I guess you could call them a lie or an optical illusion but from a physics standpoint pigmentation doesn't matter it's the wavelength of light that matters and for sure the light that comes off of blue eyes is the correct wavelength to show blue

But that’s literally how any colour works, all colours get filtered except one that is reflected back, which in this case is blue.
You can either have pigments that filter or just the structure itself that filters things out.
Aka blue eyes are every single other colour BUT blue, because blue is the only colour that leave the eyes when the light reflects.

Appearing blue means it is blue. The color only exists in the brain so it literally doesn't matter how it's produced. It's the same wavelengths of light hitting your eye.
