I can lay in my bed for 5 hours and not fall asleep what can I do. Roommates sleeps in living room I can’t go nowhere.

We bought a mattress that was too firm. Put me into the worst month of sleep issues. Actually afraid when the sun set. Thanks for the tips. Mattress company let us trade in and softer side sleep surface. Breathing exercises and non-sleep resting has really helped. Sometimes I end up doing it in an easy chair, sitting up, for up to 1.5 hours. Helps to not drink more than 5 oz after 5 pm.

I tried box breathing, but found that it actually made me feel more awake as the focus of the count I think stimulated my brain which made me feel more alert. Have you heard of this happening? I have also tried reading, but find that I can read for almost two hours and still not fall asleep in those situations. I have also tried listening to music, but then I start to get tired of the music as I just want to sleep. My eyes feel tired, but I just can't fall asleep and then I start to get quite frustrated and upset about it. These occurrences don't happen often, but when they do, I would like to have a solution to help.

Breathing exercises, calm music, nature sounds, white noise all make me more anxious. My mind seems to need some kind of distraction in order to relax in an indirect way. Any suggestions?

No sleep doctors ever mention orgasm/masturbation as a possible technique to fall back to sleep? I have found it helpful as a sleep aid, either when getting to bed or trying to get back to sleep.

A mildly unpleasant-sounding hack I’ve started incorporating is to urinate in a jug next to the bed instead of walking to the bathroom. It’s drastically improved my ability to fall back asleep. I just recommend emptying promptly in the morning and do both yourself and partner a favor 😊
