In this video, Maryke explains why doing hip and glute stretches can often make your pain worse when you have hip or trochanteric bursitis. Stretches should be left for much later in the treatment process, if done at all.

Thanks for the information. My hips are a war zone. I developed very bad lateral hip pain due to overly-enthusiastic exercise bike sprints following a sedentary time. I never received a specific diagosis, I was just told my hamstrings are tight and needed stretching. Fast forward 3 years, I also now have high hamstring tendinopathy (self diagnosis, since I was forced to learn about these things on the internet) which is even harder to get rid of than my original injury. I also have a little pain in my left hip joint area. The only thing that has started to improve my symptoms is careful isometric glut/hamstring bridges, and no stretching. I'll credit my physiotherapist with the fact that they also advised walking and bridges, but it's so frustrating to spend years in pain due to a lack of communication and proper diagnosis.

Thank you very much for your coherent explanation. I haven't seen a video that doesn't recommend stretching yet. All tell stretchers, stretchers, and again stretching. Greetings, Thomas

Thanks, this seem to more accurately describe my pain. Started off looking up sciatica, then piriformis, now gluteus medius, and burstitits.

I finally got joint injections. First only with Cortison, then a cocktail mix with B 12, C vitamin and IRAP.
Now i am fit to learn how to walk properly again. Right butt muscle had been atrofied.

Love this video. I have terrible bursitis on both hips and I have been doing exactly what I shouldn’t. I’ve had a shot and it helped somewhat but it’s beginning to get painful again and I can’t have another shot until December. I’ve seen a Chiropractor and also a deep tissue massager. She really dug deep and I believe that’s why I’m still having pain. I’m going to watch your videos and see if I can get relief from them. Do you think Yoga could help? I’ve tried everything else!

Over 90% of therapists advise gental stretching around the bursa and do excerises that will strengthen the glutes ... Injections are usually the last resort not one of the first things to consider ...

What solution i should have if I got pudendal neuralgia and hip bursitis? I am very confused on the physical therapy/massage part. Should I just resort to NSAIDs and injections for the hips bursa?

I have been diagnosed with greater trochanteric pain syndrome by a orthopaedic consultant. I was told previously by a physio to to keep walking and this has made the condition worse. I now can only walk about the house. Do I start doing gentle isometric strengthen exercises or wait til it is a bit better?

Hi, Maraike. A small question. I have a relatively soft mattress, I'm a backrest and sink with my hips, so I have a kind of pressure on my inflammation. Can this pressure make healing more difficult and should buy me a harder mattress? Greetings, Thomas
