Does a Self-Managing Scrum Team Need a Scrum Master? Let's explore the options this situation presents. All of this and more are discussed in today's episode of Your Daily Scrum with Todd Miller and Ryan Ripley.

Professional Scrum Trainers Todd Miller and Ryan Ripley built this course to help those interested in Scrum get up and running quickly using the Framework. They've partnered with Daria Bagina from ScrumMastered to bring practical materials and guides to the course.

Todd and Ryan also co-authored a book - Fixing Your Scrum: Practical Solutions to Common Scrum Problems.

Hello guys
Thanks for the great work you both are doing
I like to equate scrum master to a kitchen staff who purchases the raw material and clean the dishes and arrange the kitchen to make it conducive for the cook, hence always required in a team

Interesting discussion 💬 at the second part .. complacency setting in when Pb seem to revert back to simple or complicated because it seems that y have been managed well so far and need of a scrum master seems to be not there and then emergence of new pbs or new insights coming in (complex env) and teams do not know how to handle it leading the way to chaotic setting .. #Cynefin

The Nanny McPhee quote comes mind - “when you need me but don’t want me, I will be there. When you want me but don’t need me, I must leave.”
Agreed — follow the SHU HA RI model and become the mentor that can step back in if the team derail a bit, but otherwise move to a new team or the wider org
Plus it’s worth noting change is such a constant with people moving, joining, architecture shifting etc it’s rare for a team to remain “performing” or in the RI stage

Will try to answer this quick, without getting into how alongside a team's growth, the focus of the Scrum Master gradually moves from the team to the organization: my goal as a Scrum Master is that the Scrum Team and Scrum within that team, does not need me as a Scrum Master. If a team is there - no, they don't need me, at least not full time as a Scrum Master.

But then they say..."Yo scrum master dude, this is the line, just be with the teams and let the grownups do the work kthx *door shuts*. "
