I like this video. Moving towards Devs owning the Daily Scrum makes some impediments more obvious.

Great episode! And challenging too 😁
The closing remarks were reassuring, that having the team schedule and own the Daily Scrum is an aspiration rather than being to cut the umbilical cord immediately 👍

Whenever I hear the term velocity (non agile context also), I just imagine Todd’s passionate answer on “How to increase Velocity of the team” 😀😀

Hey, guys. Enjoying the videos, always love to hear more voices on these popular topics. I recently went down a rabbit hole regarding "required to attend". As a CTC and aspiring CST I've been really deep diving on what is "official" and what is practice the Scrum community has wrapped around the "official" - often for the better.

If we look at the Scrum Guide (2017 or 2020) neither says anything about being required. Both say something to the effect of "The Dev Team decides how to do it as long as it's focused on the Sprint Goal".

In theory, they could decide that X person isn't always needed.

Good practice I would agree is everyone attends. I just wonder if we should be more mindful with where we use absolutes?

Cheers,
Joel BC

Question: who is responsible for finding the people to create the Scrum Team in an organization that has multiple projects? I think in Waterfall, the Portfolio makes sure there are sufficient people and resources to do the project before accepting new work. Not sure how that works in Agile, and I wasn’t clear after going through the Nexus Guide.

Hi guys,

I mean it is a question of team's maturity. When the own team handle the events and didn't need somebody to trigger them, that's a dream coming true.

Thanks.

Short answer: Dev Team, as this is a place and time to plan the day by looking into how the team is doing in achieving the Sprint Goal. Can the PO be part of it? Of course! Who schedules it? Well, the Scrum Master makes sure it happens and the team does it in an effective and efficient way.

I guess I need your training, for as a Scrum Master there doesn't seem like there is a lot for me to do from your videos. Just facilitate. I will keep watching and figuring out more.

Yes, Work Item Age (perhaps combined with Service Level Expectations) is a great signal. Perhaps something for a future YDS “How can developers benefit from Work Item Age”?

As a Scrum Master it’s important to focus on WIA. Because when an item takes to long to get done, how are we going to get the velocity up? (just kidding here)

How should Scrum Master prepare themself for ceremonies?

Religiously following what the scrum guide says is way easier on co-located teams. Besides 99.9% of companies expect the SM to facilitate the DSU especially where you have 90% of developers in India.
I totally agree that the DSU is for the devs and by devs but hey...

Ok, here's a sin I'm guilty of: having to skip the daily scrum and asking the PO to facilitate in my absence.... Sorry!! Please don't lapidate me
