This is some the absolute best advice on the planet. He used to have one additional thing on this:
"If you cant tell someone at work no, you cant negotiate. If you cant negotiate, youre a slave."

This advice changed my life for the better starting many years ago. Peterson taught me that's it's important to be disagreeable at times. If one is too agreeable one can cause harm to ones self and those one cares about.

I was depressed, locked myself in my room for 6 months during several life events, and lost almost all my motivation. Listening to Jordan's videos every night helped me to overcome that time.

Strive to put yourself in a position where you can actually make choices

The “actually make choices” part of this quote is the most important part.

I was homeless, got into drugs, went into prisons, then i got to know Jesus, He changed my life.. Now i have a home, a wife, a lovely daughter and a new identity... A child of God.. Hallelujah

Last year I let a few emotionally abusive managers and HR ruin an 18 year long career in software programming. I’m afflicted with stress, sickness, self doubt, and have lost a lot of my self esteem. I currently work a labor job with guys less than half my age (I turn 50 in two months). Some days I feel as if nobody noticed I took a wrong turn and smashed my car into a tree, so to speak. It feels good to listen to someone who really cares about people like me.

He is right on this. In 2008 I hated my job and the field I was in was depleting. The economy was tanking but I still had the opportunity to take early retirement. The first year it was dicey and wondered if I made the right decision. After that first year everything fell in place and I don't regret the decision. Through time it left me time to take care of my mom with Alzheimer's and spend more time with mom. So I took the chance and my life has been more rewarding than working in a job with no rewards

Yeah I've been dissatisfied in my current employment, so I decided to do something about it, gaining more qualifications so I can do an apprenticeship and also looking for a new job. It's never too late, but you have to put the work in.

I think most people that are miserable with what they do are forced to stay trapped out of economic necessity, especially if they have others in their family who are financially dependent on them. Many, if not most are just scraping by paycheque to paycheque so the misery becomes the lesser of two evils.

My location has been the black sheep for years. But the higher ups don’t care about that when the results are good. Playing the game is all part of it. And if you’re good, you’ll shine. Your way.

I made a presumptuous and rude remark in the past and I wasn't myself at the time.
Dr Jordan Peterson you have helped me so much. You've given me guidance when I needed it and still do.
Your awesome and you'll be forever remembered as a man of strong virtue and Integrity to say what you mean even if it's against the tide of 'woke radical b.s' the third world countries would be shocked if they knew the shit we were complaining about. It's disgraceful!
Anyway nothing but love #drJordanpeterson

I used to be too agreeable. stemmed from an aversion to conflict because I felt inferior. Built my confidence through tackling fears and building self esteem through a combat sport. Now i have no problem saying no. Shocking that i actually learned to not be a pushover after all these years

Powerful advice from Jordan. I need to take it before it's too late! At 52 years old with a family to support, it's so very tough. But feel so trapped in my job it's as though I'm in Room 101. This is not hyperbole but the stark reality of become institutionalised in a job I have grown to detest and dread every single day I'm there. But I'm still there!!

Actions have risks and consequences as do inactions have risk and consequences. Life is full of great difficulties no matter how hard we may at times try to avoid them. Best to "joyfully participate in the suffering of the world" then to spend our time and effort attempting to avoid and live in safe spaces.

I love my job; I have the opportunity to have discussions with some of my passengers as we exchange info; I find out things I never knew and they as well.

My contract wasn't extended at my job cus it 'wasn't in the department budget'. It sucks to be unemployed, but it's at a perfect time. They fully embraced wokeness- rolling out mandatory DEI Training and is offering Gender Affirming Care and Procedures a part of their Employee Benefits. It's in the Life Insurance industry, so I am sure ESG scores are a factor in all this
