Expressing emotions. Difficulty putting them into words. This resonates with me. I know I’m feeling something but is it excitement or anxiety for instance. Therefor it is extra hard for me to convey what I feel. This is a real challenge.

I get that a lot. I have to have very strong emotions before I know what I am feeling

I had hunger figured out for some time, then I lost it again. Went downstairs a few hours ago after my tummy hurt because I didn't eat for the better part of a day 😅
I'm best at recognizing disappointment (in myself, mostly, can't really differentiate it from shame) and excitement. Tiredness is just a state of being at this point

From the greek language: a=not, lexis= word, thymos= mind, feelings...I need these roots to remember foreign words...maybe somebody else does too

Headaches are a big one for me. I tend to get anger induced headaches (I assume because anger affects my blood pressure) really bad.

My brother has autism, and I just realized he probably has this too. I’m always encouraging him to talk about his emotions, but of course he can’t fully articulate it yet because of this! I feel like a light bulb just went off in my head!

Thank you, for helping me understand his point of view

It’s quite difficult when my therapist always has to ask how I feel in the moment and also when I’m speaking about a past event, how I felt at that time.
I wonder if she’s spotted that I only know sad, angry and fine.

I can get really emotional about some things that don’t bother others, and be not so emotional about things that bother other people and I’m like “what are you losing it for?!”, at the same time.

It must be related to my kid's inability to recognize her need to use the bathroom etc - does that connect?

Something that can help greatly with that is expanding your vocabulary in general, but especially in regards to descriptive terms regarding different types of emotions. When you can accurately label your emotions, you can better understand them, how they occurred, and healthily express them.

The issue is definitely not one that's exclusive to autism. There are a ton of neurotypicals that have a poor ability to process their emotions and similarly, the incorrect labeling of their emotions, and/or generalizing them, leads to them expressing them in an unhealthy way. IMHO, being able to properly label descriptively one's emotions is the key to actual emotional intelligence, and it's something that the so-called experts in that have completely overlooked.
