What is Cessationism?

Many spiritual gifts had their time and are now not necessary. This video, narrated by the late John S. Walk, explains this point of view.

Cessationism is a theological position that asserts that certain spiritual gifts, particularly the miraculous gifts mentioned in the New Testament, have ceased or are no longer active in the present-day church. These gifts often include things like prophecy, speaking in tongues, and the gift of healing. Cessationists argue that these gifts were necessary during the early years of the Christian church but are not necessary or present in the same way today.

On the contrary, non-cessationists, or continuationists, believe that these spiritual gifts continue to be active in the contemporary church. They argue that the Holy Spirit continues to bestow these gifts upon believers, and they can be observed in various Christian communities.

The debate between cessationists and continuationists is part of a broader discussion within Christian theology about the nature and function of spiritual gifts in the church today. Different Christian denominations and traditions may hold varying views on this matter.

This is is a really good video on the topic. I myself am not a Cessationist (i use to be back when i was a Calvinist) however im not a charismatic. I disagree with the modern speaking in tongues and peoplen calling themselves Apostles or Prophets.

From my experience the people that claim to be Prophets will say really vague things and will say stuff like "i think" or "i feel like"

But people that don't claim to be Prophets and say something Prophetic will say something super specific and easy to understand usually accompanied with an analogy and the analogy is something that the receiver knows well about. (Golf Analogies for golfers or fishing analogies for fisherman and so on)

And most importantly the thing comes true.

Because of this i believe in the gifts still existing but i don't believe in the titles. Aka the Title of Prophet or the Title of Apostle and so on.

Maybe I should add that after years of thinking tongues was fake and making fun of those who did it, God activated me and praying in tongues. Eating crow has never been so wonderful. 😂❤
