I was saved in a pentecostal church in the Assemblies of God. Went to an AG Bible College and Seminary. While in Seminary I was expoed to more evangelical theology. Rather surprising, but it confirmed what I had been reading in God's word over the years, that something was just a little off. I love the passion of the AG, and the worship, and I don't believe they base their faith on feelings, but I had to leave due to their strict adherence that everyone can speak in tongues if they earnestly seek it. I did not see this as scriptural, but as an opinion they read into the text. Plus, tongues in the New Testament are real languages, not the gibberish you here in most churches today. I am not necessarily a cessationist in every respect, but there is no new revelation. The canon of scripture is closed and everything must be measured by scripture.

Mr. MacArthur, I'm curious about Paul's stance on the gifts. I'm not sure where I stand because I believe God can move in whatever way he choses. For example, I believe in healing. I've seen people healed through prayer. With that being said I'm with you 100% on the danger of following false leaders based on their abilities or teachings that take us away from the Word. I don't believe in modern prophecy. But again, Paul DID mention prophecy after Christ was risen. Honestly Paul's ENTIRE account was based on events that took place AFTER Christ. the fact that Paul was personally visited by Christ has often left me wondering. I mean Joseph Smith says he encountered God, but that doesn't make it true. The Bible is divinely inspired so what is in it was supposed to be in it, but I find it odd that Paul got special revelation from God AFTER Christ had departed. This is why I'm torn on Cessastionism.

Gods nature, Gods power, and the way God manifests himself is shown in scripture and is shown for our example. Anything that doesn’t line up with scripture or contradicts scripture should be rejected as a move of god. Scripture makes it clear we are to test everything. What is the standard to which we should test things? Gods word is the standard.

This is very helpful to me. I was raised with this very teaching that gives me complete confidence in the Word of God that is complete and sufficient. Recently I've heard a friend in the church say I need to understand what spiritual gifts I posses and they've mentioned miracles, speaking in tongues, healing... prophecy and it has really been confusing to me. I'll stick to what scripture says.

I will not dare say that he is not a man of God. However, I will say that he is in serious error and needs to repent. I hope that he comes to the knowledge of the truth. He may understand the scriptures but apparently not the power of God. The gifts of the Spirit are still in operation. As a minister of the Gospel, it is appalling to say otherwise.

I am so grateful God opened my eyes to the Charismatic Chaos and false theology. My life is so much better, and I am surrounded by more solid Christians that are not moved by every sign, wonder, voice ect. Also, the most hypocritical nastiest people I have encountered inside the church were tongue-talking people. I firmly believe that movement is moved by another spirit. Breaks my heart for our true brothers and sisters are still caught up in it. I pray always for them to escape.
