So interesting to see John Piper in this type of forum. He handled all the questions with precision and remained central to Christ's supremacy, as I've always known him to do so.

Wow!! I continue to hear the problem, even 7 years ago, of thinking reformed thinking is mistaken with progressive thinking. The problems we see now with Keller and Mohler is a problem of progressivism not that they hold tight to what Calvin would say.

Some of the people asking the questions don't seem to understand reformed theology or the Bible

No one is reformed who is an egalitarian. Calvinism isn't the core of Reformed Theology.

Clearly shows that Calvinists are true believers to worship the god that they and the Bible describe and proclaim is another conversation altogether.

this topic has become my new hobby interestingly enough. although im still wading through this sea of complexity that is "Neo-Calvanism and Christian Theosophy" by Dr. J. Glenn Friesen. but im still having trouble understanding WHO neo-calvanists really are. That book is dense volume of history and theology...i mean...just damn.

Piper's lack of knowledge of biblical criticism is quite noticeable. He's quite right that Christ speaks about hell more than anyone else in the New Testament, including Paul. This is hardly surprising, since the Pauline epistles - those that the most reliable critical studies have confirmed as being written by Paul - were written by before the 4 gospels, and therefore before the formal theology of the NT was clearly formulated. There's a difference to, between saying that Jesus spoke of hell and the Jesus of the NT spoke of hell. The latter clearly did; there's absolutely no way of knowing whether the former figure did (and yes I do believe Jesus existed).

For a refutation of Piper's grotesque view of God, see David Bentley Hart.
