Thank you for always doing such thorough research keeping everything in context. I’ve been reading some of the comments on here and it is very clear and very sad that so many Christians have taken all of this out of context, and don’t understand the true purpose of these gifts. None of the gifts are to serve the self. They are all to serve The church as a whole. I think you did a wonderful job and I commend you. God bless you and your ministry!

God is not the author of confusion, but it seems we are all confused on this subject, tongue’s.

Very well expounded, very balanced, sound biblical theological exposition from the scriptures. Thank you so much Pastor Nelson. God bless.

Part of the confusion concerning tongues has to do with the occasions when persons received the Holy Spirit and the onlookers realised that persons had received the Holy Spirit (cf. The Apostles in Samaria Acts 8:14-17; Peter when visiting Cornelius Acts 10:44-46; Paul in Ephesus Acts 19:4-7). Many people assume that when persons received the Holy Spirit that these persons spoke in tongues as a evidence. We understand however from 1 Corinthians 12:7-10 there is the ninefold gifting of the Holy Spirit and unless the scripture specifically mentioned that the person receiving the Holy Spirit spoke in tongues, the manifestation could have been any one of the nine gifts.

Furthermore, since the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit include both speaking in tongues as well as the interpretation of tongues, this clearly shows that tongues are relevant for today's Christians.

Interestingly, in 1 Corinthians 14:18, Paul said he thanked God that he spoke with tongues more than everyone else and then in verse 19 stated that in the church (i.e. amongst Christians the Greek word is ekklesia) he would rather speak five words with his understanding to teach others than ten thousand words in a tongue. This clearly shows that tongues are relevant for today, however moreso for private use UNLESS there is an interpretation in which case they can be used publicly. This is confirmed by:
1 Corinthians 14:2 NKJV — For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

and

1 Corinthians 14:4a NKJV — He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself.

Based on the scriptures it seems that there are four types of tongues.
1. Tongues of another language for public use - Acts 2:4; 1 Corinthians 13:1.
2. Tongues of another language for public use - which must be interpreted - 1 Corinthians 14:27 & 28.
3. Tongues for private use for personal edification - 1 Corinthians 14:2, 4a, 5a, 14 & 15.
4. Tongues of angels - 1 Corinthians 13:1.

Based on the scriptures, this MUST be our guide - Tongues SHOULD BE USED for the edifying of the body otherwise tongues should be used privately.

To me, the part about interpretation makes it confusing. If it were just another tongue why would you need an interpreter? It seems to me if it was a miracle where you spoke another language, the language you’d be speaking in is one the receiver would understand.
So that to me seems to imply it’s a heavenly language, which is why someone would need to be gifted to be able to interpret.

In all the yrs of attending charismatic type churches, despite all the raving babble going on during worship, rarely did an "interpretation" pop up, even when it did, I tended not to believe it, and current babbling in churches is NOT scriptural, as theres rarely any interpretation, it pops up in pseudo "in crowd" groupees, not solid Bible knowledgeable christians.

You've left out other scriptures by Paul 💀.. Paul said "i speak in tongues more than anyone".

Paul also said "when we speak in tongues no one understands us, as we speak mysteries"...

Please include these to your video

Speaking in tongues is a form of communication to God. It is a prayer, and doing so speaks directly to God alone, according to 1 Corinthians 14:2, “For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.”

Paul further emphasized this in his letter to the Corinthians, “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful” (1 Corinthians 14:14).

Thus, the practice of speaking in tongues was important during Paul’s time to efficiently communicate with God through prayer.

Makes sense we don't have tongues now. In Acts they were introducing Christ to the crowds. If tongues existed now, it would be a dead giveaway who the true believers are and the cults wouldn't exist. God doesn't force truth, you have to want it first, and in some cases search it out.

Why did Jesus say pray like this ..Our father in heaven

When I was baptized with the holy spirit I began to speak in tongues that's all there is to it, God gave me that gift for intercessory prayer, This happened when I started to go to church, When I do pray and intercede for people there is a change in their lives they repent and accept Jesus Christ as their lord and savior, Amen !

I’m confused…my church says the first sign of baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues with the Holy Spirit giving utterance and yet other believers who put their trust in the Lord says otherwise…this is just confusing. It’s like a tug of war. Then these same Christians say we are one in the Lord but we are somewhat divided. Sighh🤦🏼‍♀️

Amen truth was spoken, sadly in our churches we have more "Gibberish" And less Tongues.. "
1 Corinthians 14:23,  NIV: So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and inquirers or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind?

You're speaking in tongues right now. If you're speaking in a language that the Bible was not received, you're speaking in tongues.

So all English translations are anathema. Hebrew ftw.

I agree 100% gibberish, and babbling is not tongues, nor is it the move of God, because God is not the author of confusion, sadly many want to look holy, and not be holy, nor do leadership teach the difference,
