Is Speaking In Tongues Biblical?

I used to speak in tongues and I had convinced myself that I was speaking in tongues by the power of the Spirit. But in reality it was all a bunch of nonsense. The "tongues" seen in todays churches are very much similar to the story of the emperors cloths. Because only the wise could see the clothes, nobody wanted to say that they could not see them. It took a simple child to point it all out. In the same way "only the spiritual" speak in tongues and it takes a simple childlike faith to point out that it's all complete nonsense.

I was raised in charismatic churches my whole childhood, and one thing that they always drilled into me was that if you didnt show the sign of speaking in tounges then you didnt have the Holy Spirit and were not saved. Another thing they always emphasized was a private prayer language so that the devil wouldn't be able to understand what you were praying. Neither of those teachings ever sat right with me. When I became an adult and started studying on my own I came to reject almost all of the teaching I had sat under my whole life. All that time, i was scared that i wasn't saved, or that I didn't have the Holy Spirit. Now I'm free of all the fear, because I have the truth. God bless

I was caught up in the charismatic church before. Then I stopped believing what the person behind the pulpit was saying and started investigating God's word for myself. I took their most quoted verses and look them up for myself and realize the majority of them are taken out of context. So thankful God opened my eyes to the truth.

I hate when they imply you aren't saved if you can't speak in tongues

Thank you for this video. I heard a Pastor say that if you never spoke in tongues, you don't have the Holy Spirit. I left right after that. I have never spoken in tongues but I know that I have the Holy Spirit in me. Anyone that gets conviction of wrong doings, has the Holy Spirit 🙏

My mother grew up Catholic, then Baptist, then nondenominational- no teachings on tongues. One night she was praying, anguished and broken over me, her very lost daughter. And in that moment, God gifted her and she started praying in tongues. And here I am, saved and being sanctified. I agree with most points you made regarding scripture, except 1 Corinthians 14:2. It seems you're trying very hard to explain away what seems plainly written.
*For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.*
I speak in tongues, never publicly. It just comes out sometimes when I'm praying. Not uncontrolled, because I can stop it. It's good, because sometimes I just cant find the words.
David Wilkerson believed in tongues. And if ever there was a modern preacher beyond reproach, he'd be one of them.
But yes, there is also a counterfeit. And it brings shame to the church.
I've struggled with it and prayed and asked God if it wasn't from him, to take it away. But it still comes out in my prayer time.

I used to speak in tongues also but my spirit kept on telling me this is not it so I prayed and I asked God if these tongues were from him and if they are from him I should keep speaking on them but if they are not from you God let them stop .they stopped completely

My pastor forces everyone to speak in tongues and I noticed I only speak I this tongues when the pastors lays his hands on me so I make sure when i go to church I don’t allow anyone to lay they’re hands on me 😂

Your point in Paul needing to speak in tounges more than the others makes so much sense!!!

I grew up in the AOG but stopped speaking in tongues long ago. I realized that it was learned gibberish and often it resulted in me being lazy in my prayers. I have family members who are still Pentecostal. They love Jesus and I have never made it a point of division. Thank you for your excellent teaching, as it helped me understand a few confusing passages. Thank you for putting the verses in Biblical context.

I never thought of this before; Angel is the qualifier. So how has man been convinced they can speak in tongues of angels, when men are not angels?

1. There are two settings for speaking in tongues… private and public.
2. Paul desired that all the church of Corinth speak in tongues. He later asserted he spoke in tongues more than all of them.
2b. However he preferred to prophesy or interprete when in am assembly to benefit others.
3. Being filled with the Holy Sprit is different from receiving the Holy Sprit when getting saved. However they sometimes occur simultaneously.
4. Speaking in tongues is praying to God from one’s sprit bypassing the understanding.
4. It is of no benefit to an assembly unless recognised by an unbeliever or the speaker or someone else interpretes what was said.
5. The gifts of the Spirit are mainly to function in an assembly for the benefit of others and not specifically for the vessel God’s using.
6. By not speaking in tongues you’re robbing yourself and potentially others of the blessings of God.
7. Manifestation of the Holy Sprit have been imitated and corrupted throughout church history.

I was given a tape by the charismatic movement in the catholic church about how to speak in tongues. While this was playing while on my knees I started sweating, hearing loud pounding noises and heard my doorbell ring. I got scared.
I stopped the recording and the noises stopped also.
There was no one at my door, my neighbour above me wasn't at home.
I knew I was opening the pit of hell.
Years later I attended a "receiving the gift of tongues" in a pentecostal church and opening my mouth was told to let it flow.
I had to stop myself at the utter nonsense I was saying.
I really don't believe in this because I have never heard any interpretation.
Now if this speaking in tongues is going on around me I ask Almighty God to cover me with the BLOOD of Jesus, to shut my ears and allow nothing to be sowed into my life that is not of Him.
I am not seeking anything except to know "Him Christ Jesus crucified and seated at the right hand of the Throne".
A gift is given, shouldn't be sought after.
All Glory to Almighty God in Christ Jesus name through the Power of His Holy Spirit Amen

Since the Lord delivered me out of the "apostolic/prophetic" movement I have really been studying my Bible more and reading EVERYTHING in context which I never did while in NAR and Word of Faith. I never realized how they twist the Scriptures so much! I was deceived! I prayed in "tongues" a lot and and gave people " a word of the Lord". I have repented and God has graciously forgiven me. I do believe in the gifts of the Spirit just not how it is happening in NAR churches. I myself was miraculously healed of multiple sclerosis. God is still working! I have unconsciously started speaking in tongues while praying, but have immediately stopped because of the Holy Spirit's conviction. I do not speak in tongues now.

It doesn’t bother me that believers speak in tongues, it does however bother me when they say that you must speak in tongues to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. From scripture, I come to the same conclusions as you.

I have family and friends who are truly God fearing people that do speak in tongues and it’s right to them so I won’t place a stumbling block in front of them as long as their fruits are good.

I'm glad you touched this topic, I hope the pentecostals look deeper into this and question what they are taught.

I tried to "speak in tongues" when I saw people praying. I couldn't.
Only when I was baptized, asking God for the gift, it came freely to me . I don't have to think how to do it, it flows out of me.
I pray in tongues whe I don't know what to pray, I let Holy Spirit pray for me.

I have watched a lot of your videos and normally I agree with much of what you say. I don’t here however. I am 55 years old. I was saved when I was 8 and baptized in the Holy Ghost at age 11. From the time between ages 8-11, I did not speak or pray in tongues one single time. I was in a prayer meeting in my parent’s home. My dad had been Baptist. He didn’t even believe in tongues, but the Lord filled him. My mom was Methodist. At age 21 in her bedroom, she asked God to fill her with the spirit and she started speaking in tongues. When my dad laid hands on me and prayed for me to receive, just like Paul did in Acts, I immediately started speaking in tongues. I think you are confusing two different things brother. I’ve seen as many as 40-50 people get baptized in the Holy Ghost all at once and start speaking in tongues . I’ve seen little kids who know nothing about spiritual things fall out under the power of God and get up from the floor speaking in tongues. There is a saying that a man with an experience is never at the mercy of a man with only an argument.

I do know this as well. I’ve been in churches that did not believe or teach about the baptism of the Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues or praying tongues, and they were completely void of the power of God. They were dead, no joy, no testimonies of healing, no testimonies in miraculous deliverance from drugs, alcohol, or anything of the like. Then I’ve been in the churches where they do teach, speaking in tongues, praying in tongues, etc. and there are too many testimonies of miraculous healings, deliverances, etc. to discount what is obviously the truth. I think you have missed it here my friend. Once again, agree with much of what I hear you say. But not here.
