"you're not autistic there were never any signs when you were a kid"
my childhood:

by far the most accurate part of this video is allistics saying stimming in public is rude but finding it perfectly fine to say that you always look miserable

The inability to hear anything when making eye contact is SO REAL!! Also, the absolute anxiety when being told to just "go play". " I don't know what they're doing. I don't KNOW WHAT TO DO. SOMEONE GIVE ME A ROLE."

"figure it out" is the most INFURIATING THING ever, whenever i ask for help with something after hours of trying to figure it out myself and the person i ask tells me to "figure it out" makes me so upset

This... explains so much about my childhood. My parents had no clue about my high functioning autism until I was an adult.

One of the things that makes me the most angry is when a teacher/authority figure grabs one of my autistic kids, gets right in their face and yells "Look at me and explain yourself!" THEY FUCKING CANT RN BARBARA, LEAVE THEM ALONE.

"what's wrong?"
"nothing's wrong. I'm normal."
"you don't look like it. why are you like that!?"
"I AM NORMAL!"

Possible undiagnosed adult here: Im getting flashbacks. Im so good at masking that at the autism clinic they said i dont have autism. Looking people in the eye takes effort. Im often told that i overreact and to stop "overreacting." I cant get tested again because i "already had a thorough examination and i dont display the symptoms." Im very good at masking. My friends, family, and even some of my teachers knew i had autism long before i did. Heck, people i just met know and i didnt even have to tell them! What arent the so called "experts" not seeing? I wish there was more awareness for autistic adults and the vast spectrum displayed in autism.

My first grade teacher called my mom and asked if i liked school because i never smiled and always took it so seriously. I loved it i just didn't know i needed to smile to show other people i enjoyed it.

I love it when allistic people tell us that we are rude when we're doing nothing at all but they find it absolutely okay to tell us we're weird. Because obviously it's not rude at all to call someone "weird" to their face!

When I was younger I’d nod my head Ona landline phone call and my parents would be like “they can’t see you, remember?”

I suddenly got hit with a wave of memory of always following my friends around as a kid and not realising that they found it weird or just wanted their own space sometimes

My mother all through my childhood, but the second it was one of her boys experiencing it, not only is she sympathetic, but she lets him do whatever he wants, and doesn’t correct behavior that is actually harmful to others.😊 gotta love boy moms.

When I was 14, my grandmother took my cousin and me on a day trip, which was amazing, and so much fun, and the first time I'd ever gotten to do something like that. Afterwards, she asked me if I "even" had fun. It wasn't like, "so, did you have fun?" She mentioned how she didn't see me smiling. I was devastated and felt like I did something wrong, and was so worried I'd offended her, partially because I thought if I did, she wouldn't take me anywhere special ever again (which actually was true), and I became so much more conscious of what my face was doing after that. Knowing what I know now, though, I'm sure I would've had much less fun if I'd had to concentrate on keeping a smile on my face.
