For me it's not about speed ratings; it's about handling, grip and hydroplane resistance. I just put Micheline Pilot 4S All seasons on my Mazda. They are rated at some ridiculously high speed, my Mazda would never reach that speed, but I love the way they handle, and if they save one crash because of their ability to stick to the road and not hydroplane when I make an error in judgement, the extra cost is worth it. Why the all-seasons you might ask, well this way they will last long enough for me to wear them out before the rot, but won't cost me an arm and a leg replacing them as often as the summer-only Pilots.

I put a new set of Michelin Defenders on my 2020 Ranger. I have 10, 000 miles on them already and I've noticed a difference in ride quality, and braking compared to the original Bridgestone's that came with the truck. Don't compromise on tires...they're the only thing that attaches your vehicle to the road.

Man, Scotty’s wife is starving him. Soon we’re gonna see him holding a “Will Work for Food” sign! 🤣🤣🤣

I spent 10 years recovering road accidents for a living. Common theme in many accidents is cheap tyres. Cheap tyres tend to break traction suddenly, leading to unpredictable handling. A good quality tyre will loose grip much more slowly, giving you time to respond in a more controlled manner

Tires are one of those things in life where you get EXACTLY what you pay for. For anyone you care about, only put Michelin, Goodyear, Bridgestone, Pirelli, Yokohama, Continental, on there and forget about it. If its just you and you don't care that much, you can put anything on there but the best "cheapo" I've found are Falken. They don't last very long but they are very reliable.

NO Scotty
Most people use there cars and wear out the tires. We all retired or able to stay home like you. We commute to work in all types of weather and need good tires.

I work at town fair tire. Ive sold countless sets of tires of all brands. So ive seen them come back too. First, theres no such thing as a cheap michelin tire and to he honest they arent worth it. Toyo tires and falken tires make some of the best tires in the world and are a step down in price from michelin. If you’re looking for a good cheap tire, sumitomo/TBC company based brands are good for the buck, like El dorado and doral. Both are reliable. Run away from - accelera, linglong crosswind, prinx, delinte, and honestly, goodyear uses a sunflower oil now that dry rots quickly. So i wouldnt get a cheap goodyear or goodyear based brand thats cheap for a long lasting tire

I'd avoid Chinese tires though, especially when you can get a budget Japanese tire like Sumitomo.

Back in the 1970’s we would go behind a Sears automotive garage and pick out some used tires made in the USA to recycle on our cars, of course after hours 🤩

I buy most of the family's tires on Tire Rack. I always look at the specs to see where they were manufactured. Choose a set of tires with at least a million miles worth of reviews (4/5 or better) so you can be certain. Then have them drop-shipped to your favorite mechanic!

I always wear my tires out way before dry rot. Lucky to get over two years, or around 35, 000 miles, out of a set.

Everyone saying "don't cheap out on tires, " I have only ever bought the cheapest possible tires for 25 years now, including 10 years buying cheap Chinese tires in Asia for motorcycles. As long as I keep an eye on the tread I have never had any problems. I couldn't imagine spending $400 on a tire, that is wild 😂

Actually, W and Y rated tires are for cars that go more than 170 MPH. W and Y rated tires are above ZR rated tires.

Scotty, this is bad advise. Buy high quality tires only, pay the extra for it. Its your only contact with the road. Motorcyclists know you don't cheap out on tires. It could save you some day. This also accounts for cars

Scotty, I'm going to call you out on this one. I have worked in the tire industry for over 35 years.
First off, there is no speed rating as R. R means radial.
Any tire dealer that sells a downgraded speed rated tire is totally liable for not installing the right speed rated tire.
The car engineers who made the car set certain parameters of what the tire the should be. It's not how fast you go,
it the handling of the vehicle to be stable.
when I lived in Phoenix, one of my customers but on a downgraded speed rating on a customers car, because she wanted to save money. She was elderly and
got killed in a collision with a palm tree because her car didn't handle correctly.
The family business that was around for 80 years has disappeared because of legal issues and wrongful death claims
because of a speed rated tire. Kinda Fucked Up...

Don't buy Chinese tires. They pop so easily by hitting small potholes and nails puncture them easily. I made the mistake and never again.
