Pro tip: if you go to buy a used car from someone, check out what kind of tires are on the car. If they're mismatched and cheap, the owner probably cheaped out everywhere else too ✌

Wise words of advice from a mechanic I use around here, “if it comes between you and Mother Nature it’s best to not cheap out”

When I worked at Discount Tire I remember being told this by my old manager
"Horsepower means NOTHING if you can't stay on the road"
If you drive enthusiastically and have a sports car then you definitely dont want to go all out on the engine bay, the paint, the wrap, the wheels, and then get caught slipping going too fast towards a corner because you bought ling long tires

I put Toyo TR-1s on my Miata which were one of the cheaper options and they were absolutely great. Decent wet grip, more than enough dry grip for the street, not uncomfortable, and 60% of the cost of pilot sports.

As a Florida boy I can confirm my winter wear does consist of just a hoodie, unless I'm on the bike then its hoodie and windbreaker.

I've used many Chinese tires and the only thing that I find them lacking in is tread life. However, i only put 10, 000km per year on my car. Having said that, the ride quality and performance was always fine. I've never had a problem with grip in rain or snow. I currently have Chinese summer tires and Chinese winter tires. It's far more dangerous to drive like a lunatic on expensive tires than to drive responsibly on cheap tires.

If you care about safety, don't drive like an idiot.

I always go at least mid range. I've used Avon, Churchill and Kormoran, all good tyres (UK spelling). Just put All Season Kormoran on my Jeep Renegade & they look good...

Sam's presentation are getting better and better in every video he's in. I love it. Keep it up bro 👍🏼 for me cheap tyres does worth it since there are high end company who made a ton of affordable tyres for everyone in every form of life that performs well in each seasons or weather or tyres that fitted every consumer needs. We just have to find a good set of tyres for what we need.

Edit: what wheels are those on the 86?

One of those things I had to learn the hard way haha. Before a tire was a tire but now that I’ve paid attention and bought quality tires… can’t go back. World of difference

My Civic Si came with fresh General tires when I bought it as a used car. First thing I thought was I’m going to order some Yokos or Michelins asap. Did some research and realized General is the same as Continental. After some months of city driving with a bit of spirited drives here and there, they’ve been great tires for daily use! Great in the rain and light snow too. If anybody is looking at “cheap” tires for daily driving I’d recommend General 100%. I now have Continental Extreme Contacts on the way and cannot wait to feel the difference.

Conclusion: if you just want smoke? Get cheap, if you want to actually drive well? Get good.

There's a lot of middle ground between the cheapest of no name trash and the most premium of summer tyres.

It depends on the application. Plenty of good tyres near the bottom end of the price scale for everyday driving

I think it also depends on the car you drive. I have an old W124 sedan and it is only driven in summer when its not raining or wet outside. Nearly every tire „grips“ on dry surface and it’s not a racecar so i don‘t think some pilot sports would make any difference to my cheap nankangs. Good video tho👍🏼

I think Falkens are probably just fine (they are on my MKIII Supra right now, but I feel like they are old because while the tread is fine, the traction is not) but I wanted the latest and absolute best since I was fitting her with new wheels. Pilot Sport 4S was my choice. Never dreamed of spending that much on tires, but I think they will be worth it when they come in from fitment.
