If you are doing anything fast, ANYTHING above 20-30 mph PLEASE tighten until the wheel does not move. If can cause major lack of slide control which can cause severe injury

it's so painful to see this being so popular. a lot of beginners will watch this and reduce the performance of their board and degrade their bearings… the information in this video is completely wrong, if you have bearing spacers (which you should!), make sure the axle nuts are nice and tight, without any play. don't worry if this reduces freespin, that's no indication at all of how your bearings will perform under load. @OgdenSikel i hope you'll consider taking this misinformation down.

Omg I’ve been tightening my wheels to get RID of that clicky noise because I thought it was a bad thing! And I’m over here wondering why I had to push so much to keep my wheels going!

Big disagree. Bearings need preload to do their job. The wheels should turn almost freely by hand with no click.

Only do that if you're for some reason not using spacers. With spacers, tighten the axle nut until you feel noticable resistance. Then proceed not to care about how the wheel spins when you're hand spinning it, because that really doesn't tell you how well it's going to perform under load.

If wheel is not free spinning with nut tight 2 possibilities, bad bearing or wheel and bearings have been installed with out spacer.
The spacer is part of a metal sleeve that runs along the axel, from the truckhanger, inner bearing race, spacer, outer bearing race and then nut... speed rings can also be part of the sandwich.
If a spacer is not used then the nut applies side forces to the outer and inner bearings with only the plastic rubber wheel/bearing seat separating them.

That's how I ride. After about 3 miles this weekend my wheel fell off and I lost a bearing. I need a nut that locks

Cool but bearings? You might have new skaters that bought a cheap board with awful bearings thinking “I don’t need new bearings I just need to loosen my wheels”

You aren't gonna lose any speed tightening your wheels all the way down with the right berrings and right wheels.

Thank you so much brother! Today I was riding my brand new longboard in my parking lot and I was wondering why it was going so slow. For a moment I thought it was because the board is new and therefore I had to keep riding it until it loosens up a bit. I appreciate a lot this video <3

Uhm... that's how you wear the inside of the bearings bushing out, they need to be tight to the truck otherwise you risk the wheels trying to skip on you when your carving. Also bearings need preload, the inner bushing that sits on the trucks thread will just roll with the balls in the bearing if they aren't tightened down not allowing you to actually use the ceramics or polished steel beads inside.

No. You need to get bearing spacers and speed rings. Install them properly, then tighten your axle all the way down.

You should Take down this video and make another one before people watch this and ruin thier Bearings.

You must be trolling. Why would you add slop to your wheels?

This doesnt make your board faster it just makes your setup janky.

Use spacers inside the wheel between the bearings and then you can tighten fully so axle nut is secure all the way and still rolls.

Use bearing spacers and you can tighten the wheel nut down completely, having slop like this is unnecessary. Spacers and properly torqued nuts also makes slides way smoother and less chattery.

Notice how he said brand new to skateboarding/long boarding etc, a newbie isn’t going to go out of their way to get spacers and built in bearings and all the special stuff because not only can that get expensive but it’s not required when all you have to do is slightly loosen the wheel nut

doornaildean

so you don’t have to change out the bearings to redz like every other you tube video is saying you have to do? 🤔
