Are you overheating with stress, and your performance is seriously affected?

I was in the 40-degree heat of Dubai recently; I got to thinking about how easy it is to develop 'busy'itis' to try to prove our worth (or run away from ourselves...).

But here's the thing: this path so many of us are on is a surefire way to burnout. The good news is that it's not a one-way flight path. There are steps we can take to manage our stress and prevent burnout.

When we fly an aircraft, we must consider the temperatures and pressures around us as they significantly affect its performance, i.e., its ability to perform. So, we are wise to analyse before launching the mission.

For example, the hotter it is, the harder it is to get off the runway, and the harder it is to climb up to high levels of the cruise where the most efficient operating levels are.

The flight mission provides a great metaphor/analogy to look at ourselves objectively because it is all about working out how best to achieve mission success.

Surely, we would choose to fly the journey of life, bearing in mind overall safety, but also being prepared to take a calculated risk and get going with faith that the probability of reaching the destinations in life is in our favour.

It may be time to do a performance calculation on your overheat levels...
