These are great tips! I used to work nights and been on day shift for a month. Im going back to nights so I’m definitely getting some black out curtains. I work from 10pm-5:30 am. I love it! I love working out in the morning rather than afternoon. No one is at the grocery store it’s so peaceful lol.
I feel like as long as you’re eating healthy, working out, getting enough sleep you’ll be okay. Also doing things for yourself like reading, spending time with friends & family, working on projects. Anything that makes you happy 😊 When I first started nights I had terrible habits. I would sleep all day and only wake up to eat. And then I would go back to sleep. Then I would go back to work. I wasn’t doing anything for myself. So I’m preparing myself for my vampire shift as I like to call it 😜

I work permanent night shifts, I permanently stay in night mode even on my days off, peoples afternoon is my morning. I arrange all appointments for the afternoon and sleep through the day. I've got a black out eye mask to cover my face to sleep.

Blue-light blocking glasses have been surprisingly more helpful than I expected!

Blackout curtains
White noise / rain sounds
A hot shower or bath to relax
Melatonin
Spend the money on a good mattress
Go to bed at the same exact time everyday

I've worked for a 7 day newspaper operation for over 30yrs...There is nothing to rectify the situation after that many years...When you're up during the day you always, ALWAYS feel like a vampire on a day pass...No 2 ways about it...Seriously, I've tried all these things and after it boils down to a huge sleep disorder and I still must sleep during the day and am always awake naturally at night, no matter what...

I’ve been working nights my whole life. I’m just now trying to figure out how to get better sleep. It’s a luxury for me to get five hours, I can feel it in my bones that it’s killing me. Thanks for the tips. To top it all off, I work 12 hrs. On mon, tue. Off wed, thurs. on fri, sat, sun. Next week I work the opposite. Off mon, tues. On wed, thurs. off fri, sat, sun. Trying to live a normal life in between.

Great tips but the guy in the grey shirt kept getting cut off and it makes it difficult to listen to.

I’ve worked rotating 12 hour shifts the last 7 years. Surprisingly, nights are when I sleep better and can get into the gym, as well as eat better. 6-6 day shifts are so much harder. I have a harder time justifying going to the gym and leaving my dogs alone as well as just being motivated after a super stressful day, I sleep like absolute shit, and I end up so busy most days at work that I just don’t eat. And at my plant we swap from one to the other all month long. I’m just not sure how to tick all the boxes, and it is so frustrating since my training is so dialed in. Shift work is so destructive to everyone involved. Thanks for the tips, there are some I will try and apply!
