Steer clear of Kia and Hyundai products if you want to avoid nasty surprises down the road! Not only are their stores unhelpful, but unfortunately any major issues with these vehicles will take a while before they rear their ugly head.

My daughter was closing on a new Kia today, actually I was at the dealership with her watching this video, she is just 18 ... You saved us, we drove across the street she got a Toyota and will cost her extra $50 monthly

As a dealership owner myself, I applaud you by taking that stand for your customers. We do the same and have helped our customers in bad situations and just do the right thing, even when it hurts our pockets. Not all customers will be happy even if you do help them in these bad situations but at least you will know you can sleep at night with a good conscious knowing that you did right by them as best you could.

My father had a Kia for 10 years, even bought used.. He had zero problems with it at all :)

We need more honest people like this guy! Got my respect!!! If I didn’t live so far I’d buy a car from this guy!

It's sad that a single person has more integrity than an entire company of people. Keep up the good work Chevy Dude.

Kia really dropped the ball on the Theta defect. The dealers are just making things worse.

Ok I can’t take it - it’s not “re-duplicate” it’s duplicate. 😎 good video

Thank you for helping them out. Sorry you got burned bad on this one. I’m praying that you are able to get some deals in the future to make up the difference.

Your reaction to experiencing immediately what supposedly KIA couldn’t duplicate was totally justified!

It's one thing to say you are virtuous. It's another thing to hold yourself to it. Thank God their are people like you.

I saw Hyundai/Kia come into the USA in the 80's. They never had a value in my mind since then. I sell auto parts and am amazed how many pre mature failers there is

I’m a former Kia Technician, Kia Corporate has fairly strict guidelines with the engine replacement on the 2.4s with unlimited engine replacements. My suggestion is to drain the oil, lock it up, and pour the old oil back in and make sure it’s below the dipstick. Then they’ll be no way of them denying the replacement. Just make sure the updates have been done otherwise the engine warranty isn’t valid. If they replaced the knock sensor then they should’ve done the update as well. Once the new engine is in you’ll be good to go to sell it at least. We would sometimes do this to help people out at the dealer I was at. If the car isn’t throwing a p1326 and there’s no proof of it burning more then a quart of oil every 1000 miles Kia basically tells you to tell the customer to kick rocks. However if you do what I said and run it dry, it’ll definitely throw a 1326. Just make sure you put some miles on it before you lock it up and you’ll be good to go. Especially since you’ve already brought it in once for blowing smoke (burning oil).

This is the exact problem with Kia. They make a terrible product that has issues and then refuse to stand behind it.
Mike I'm really glad you kept this as emotional as you did!

Kudos to you for standing up for your customer and, most of all, for keeping your word. A rare thing today.

Friend of mine here in Alberta runs a scrap metal recycle business. He told me last year he picked up a lot of used engines from a KiA dealership. He gave me a heads up about this last year.

Was considering a Kia Telluride but watched Scottie and got a Highlander. Amazing decision. I love the Highlander!

I am going through this with a 2016 Kia Soul. The service tech has told me it's a 3 step process. Step one is a computer reprogram. 2nd is the knock sensor, and 3rd is the engine replacement. Take it back to the dealer and show the video of the smoking and demand a engine. This will take months to exchange.

2 things
1. Kia recalls most if not all of the GDI engine, not necessarily warranty, side note and talking from experience the recall might take up to a year and a half.
2. Used engines can still be a good engine.
But KIA and hyundai are pain to work with, especially in car dealer world.

I have owned or leased over 13 Kia vehicles during the tenure of my business and with one exception have NEVER had any kind of problem (had one battery go bad). Everything you say flies in the face of what my experience has been, and I continue to own two Kias.. 2017 Sedona and 2017 Kia Niro...both superb cars. Frankly, i don't understand how your experience can be so different from mine...

When I was in the market last month for a new car, I instantly rejected getting a Kia. I know that Korean cars don't hold up at all. I was tempted to buy a Hyundai Santa Fe, but something told me "No. Look around first." I did just that. Searching through the different websites of the dealerships throughout Maine, I landed on a sweet looking 2020 Toyota Camry with VERY LOW miles and I'm talking less than 17, 000 miles on the odometer. I looked it over and took it on a 30 mile test drive just to make sure it was the right car. I was looking for something roomy, drives smooth and had plenty of power under the hood. That was something my 2016 Chevy Equinox couldn't do. After thoroughly enjoying myself driving around for nearly an hour, I bought the Camry. It was the best car decision I ever made because I really enjoy it. I'll never buy another Chevy again. If I decide to upgrade in the future, it'll be newer Toyota Camry with a higher trim level.
