I have purchased 2 new vehicles during the pandemic, a Kia and a Toyota. Both dealerships wanted a markup. Both times I told the salesperson I was not willing to pay the desired mark up and would walk away. The Kia dealer reduced the markup to $500.00 and I bought it because it was the only manual transmission Soul within 100 miles. I needed a manual to dinghy behind a motorhome for a big trip. The Toyota dealer said the mark up was mandatory so I headed for the door. Before I got to my car, he relented and I got the Tacoma for MSRP. It seems as though our best negotiating tactic is to use our feet and leave.

I can not overstate how slimy my local Kia dealer is. Not surprised.

A few months ago, my son bought a new Subaru. He and I went together to the dealer for all of the proceedings. We both had watched all of your videos about how to deal with all of the dealer games. We were prepared for a battle that never happened. There was no excess markup, no difficulty with getting a test drive, no mandatory add-ons. The offered trade-in was fair for the market. There was little upselling in the F&I office and the F&I person took no for an answer the first time. The loan was arranged through the same credit union that we use and for the same rate that my son had been pre-approved for on his own. It was one of the best experiences that I ever had buying a new car. The result of this is that they have one very satisfied customer in my son and a very interested potential future customer in myself.

Wow...this one resonated with me. We own a 2020 Telluride SX and love it. I tried to shop for a new one for my wife this year and found dealer mark-up (in Phoenix) between $10-20k. I flat out refused and actually called Kia directly to let them know how I felt. I know it was maybe as impactful as a fart in the wind but if enough people turn to another brand and TELL KIA they might figure something out.

Absolutely not shocked after visiting a local Kia dealer here in Nashville, and ended up declining leasing a new K5GT after they marked up the particular vehicle $10k to ~$50k, with nerve to quote me lease payments between $750-$850 monthly for a 3 year lease with $4k-$6k down. My best friend just purchased a Stinger for $800 a month - told him there’s no way in hell I’d pay that because it’s inanity.

I ended up leasing a new Sonata N-Line at a local Hyundai dealer the very next day, with no markup, at $500 monthly with the same desired terms for $4k down — completely different experience, leaving me completely pleased with the entire transaction.

Always appreciate you all’s indelibly informative videos! 🔥

Three months ago we drove 140 miles from NJ to Jones Hyundai in Bel Air, MD to get a Tucson at MSRP. Dealers in NJ wanted at least 3K over MSRP. Buying experience, great.

2015 Kia Forte. 56k miles aways got the oil change every 3 months and tires rotated. I bought it used in 2017 10k miles. 2022 started to make a loud ticking noise that got louder took it to the dealership I bought it from. They told me that it was a known issue with Kias and this Kia engine and told me to call Kia . They gave me the number. 10 calls some with the dealership manager on the line and months of threats went no where dealer I bought the car from bought it for 4K to keep my future business. I Will never ever buy a Kia again or anyone that hears me story. Dealership even said most kias they take in on trade they been sending them to auction due to mine and two other customers with the same issue. Kia won’t stand behind there defective motors

100%. The only reason I own a Subaru Legacy was because of being jerked around by several Kia dealers in 2021 trying to buy an AWD K5 without paying a massive markup. The Subaru dealer actually took $1, 500 off MSRP during a time when he only had a half dozen cars in stock. Very pleasant people to deal with and not a typical old school predatory car dealer like the Kia ones were.

As a former worker in dealerships, I always said the salesman sells the first car to the customer, but the service department sells all the rest that they buy from the same dealer. To screw them in the sales department, automatically stops them from coming back. Those dealers who got greedy during the supposed crisis of supply, will pay in the end. As the bottom falls out of this market change, I can see lots of dealers closing up! 😊

I was in sales most of my life. When I walk in a Dealer ship I'm armored up and have done my diligent study! They'll send three or four guys out to deal with me and I get what I want or I go to another dealership. The things I can write about. They would sell a lot more cars if they looked at the long run and developed a relationship but these are some of the most unprofessional people I've ever dealt with in most cases. I'll win every time. I do not like liars and manipulators!

Just left a Kia store, they let thier dealers do just insane things and Kia is a 3 quarters behind on paying sales people thier quartly money. The dealers are vile beyond words as well. The EV6 training we did was insane and just stupid. We did not do the markups at least and I was assigned to GMC for all but 4 months of Kia store torture.

“Short term gain, long term loss.”

I really don’t understand how any dealer would ever care about customer satisfaction. The fraction of repeat buyers must be vanishingly small. If a typical customer buys a new car every 7 years, there is a near certainty that neither the salesman or sales manager will be there for the next purchase. Sales staff at all car dealerships are notoriously transient.

Of course part of the point in this video is that the car brand suffers when dealerships take advantage of customers.

But most Americans view the car buying experience as a few hour long displeasure to be endured. What matters far more is how reliable and fun the car is over several years.

The practical realities of American car buying is that dealerships are very motivated to strive for a home run on every deal and customers are generally prepared to be taken advantage of.

Finally completed the purchase on my 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee last night. The saga is over at last! 53k MSRP, $48k OTD. Between the dealer discounts, and year end incentives it was about 19% below MSRP + TTL. And nothing added, no alarm, no protection sprays, no wheel/tire insurance, no lifetime oil changes, no market adjustment, no sales attitude, truly remarkable. Just 19% off and they are happy to be moving a vehicle today.

Thanks for the video! We bought a 2023 EX Telluride from King Kia in Gaithersburg, MD. It was a good, straight forward experience. That being said, that was NOT the case when I dealt with our local Kia. Thanks to the education you all provided with your videos, I made a spreadsheet of every Kia dealership in MD, PA, WV, VA, and NJ. It was exhausting, but worth the effort. We did still pay over MSRP, about $1500. My local Kia wanted 8k, most wanted 6k. They even wanted a markup with a factory order! It's ridiculous, but we looked at a lot of other car brands, and the Telluride was just the one we really, really liked...Plus we found one with a second row bench seat, black interior, all the specs we were looking for. Had it about a month now and we love it! Thank you all so much for sharing your knowledge :)

Bought a Tacoma 4 years ago. Said yes the the deal and it was expensive. Got a call a week later and they told me I need to come back in to restructure the loan. I thought the worst but they dropped my monthly payment $150 a month. Merry Christmas!

I actually had a nice experience at Kia earlier this month. Thanks to your videos and a few other resources, I was able to get in and out in about 1.5 hours. I ended up talking them down over $9k from their first price and got a Stinger below MSRP. I told them I didn't want to waste their time or my time. I told them where I was at as far as price and let them know I had appointments at other dealers. I probably knew more about their inventory than the salesman and had been speaking with the sale manager via email for a couple weeks leading up to the appointment. Thank you and just know not all dealerships are created equally.

Just a note, while I understand that people are upset with many Kia dealers, my daughter bought a new Kia at Kia of Murfreesboro in Tennessee and had a great experience. We worked through the process and using many YAA techniques. She got a pretty decent deal and the people were great!

I wanted to buy a Kia EV6 last year but dealing with the dealerships was just not worth it. They lied about inventory, scheduled a test drive for me and then failed to have a car for me to drive, and just generally acted like they could care less if I bought a car from them - so I didn't and probably never will.

They charged 2k for a mat sensor in a 2016 sedona... its a free for all, they are robbing anyone unlucky enough to walk into a kia dealer.
