Same reason why the new tundras were/are spinning rod bearings at 20-30k miles. Apparently the solvents/solution used to rinse out the blocks after milling was too harmful for the environment and is a nono now. Guess filling up junk yards and landfills with blown motors is greener, lol

Amazing how every mechanic knows about this but our representatives won’t fight for us 😅😅

That's clearly an Error it Had from the First day. Customers should be able to Claim warranty.

Both of my daughters KiA GDI engines failed and KiA will not fix them. Such a bad design

If you buy a hybrid model, they are exclusively built in Korea and they don't have these issues, it's the ones built in Alabama, Toyota actually just recalled 100, 000 2023 Toyota Tundra's and are replacing the engine on ALL of them for the exact same issue, metal fillings in the engine, so this can apparently happen to even the most reliable of brands.

You explained well that the issue with these particular engines isn't the fault of the Hyundai/Kia engineers. It's that they were not deburred properly at the factory during manufacturing. Without that issue, they are actually quite a dependable and long-lasting engine. The few people who are lucky to not have this problem can get 200k+ miles out of them with proper care.

Happened to my girlfriend’s Santa Fe the day before we moved from Ohio to Maine. The check engine light started flashing and we immediately drove it over to our mechanic. The next day the codes didn’t reveal the problem, but when they drained the oil they could feel metal. Our mechanic said that this particular engine had a problem with faulty rod bearings and Hyundai was involved with a class action lawsuit. He said we could get a free engine so we towed it over to the dealership. We left the next day and a week later we got a call that the engine would be replaced at no charge. They also shipped the car to Maine at no cost. My girlfriend said Hyundai got a customer for life

I have owned a total of three Kia’s and one Hyundai. All have given excellent service. One thing that may help is that ours were manufactured in South Korea. The quality control is much better there.

I've been lucky, i have that lifetime engine/trans replacement buy my car is still running fine even after 350, 000+ miles. It's been taken to a dealership for every oil change and routine maintenance schedule since day one.

This is why you must drop the oil and filter day 1 buying any new car . Change your engine oil first day . Change the filter first day . Then change them again 1 week. Then again 1 month . You have to assume there’s machining fillings all through the engine .
We’ve owned 3 Hyundai cars from brand new . Never had an issue with any of them .
I also changed the Auto Trans fluid day 1 . Then 1 week . Once a year after that .

But yet it’s the customers fault when they take the car for service.

Can you help explain what a GDI engine is compared?

Ps. Just subbed. Loving your videos.

Wonder if you can just take the top cover off. Drill holes in add oil spray nozzles, a supply line down into the sump, a small pump. Seal one the top cover. Run all the time. As prevention. The extra mile.

I have a 2013 Hyundai Veloster non-turbo with GDI engine. Am I in danger too?
If so, is there a way to improve on the engine to avoid the issue?

the lack of oil starvation, so not enough oil restriction? so we need less oil for these engines to work right?
