I tell you one thing that engine never saw oil changes based on the color. "ITS A SHIT ENGINE" yeah any engine is shit when you dont maintain your motor.

US assembled engines seem to have a lot issues. In Australia, the Korean made Hyundai and Kia vehicles are exceptionally reliable.

The engine was made in the US btw the true Korean made cars are reliable

They're perfectly reliable. I've seen all kinds of cars that have engines removed.

Cant stand people who will constantly talk down on Hyundai/Kia without actually owning or working on one (properly). Typical Americans

Hmmm, I heard a number of kia or Hyundai owners, they went over 100, 000+ miles. A friend of mine own a Sportage already reached over 200, 000 miles. Need to change that title.

KIA and Hyundai only have one bad engine. It is the Theta II. It was installed in many popular models, it is also now discontinued. They have many reliable engines. A little bit of education or googling goes a long way :)

The US made engines seem to have the worst issues with oil consumption, while the Korean built ones tend to be better built overall. My mom's Korean built Tucson only burned oil when the PCV valve and valve cover gasket went bad and needed to be replaced. When I first noticed the oil level dropping I made sure to keep it topped up thinking she was going to run into the same problem other folks have been having. When the oil started to drip from the bad gasket onto the exhaust and made the engine smoke we took it to the dealership to get it serviced. That was when they discovered those issues and fixed them. She's driven it 3K miles so far, and it hasn't burned a drop.

For those that don't read the description, it says that this looks like well maintained engine but blew up and needed rebuilding after 76k

As a Kia owner I can say that these engines are great but the valve clearance is a little excessive which makes the top end a little noisy but that's it! Nothing wrong with them!

Well, my 2000 kia has 336, 000 miles on it and it runs perfect.

Aside from the quality control problem they had with the metal shavings not being cleaned out which is a standard procedure, hopefully they've done corrective action not to let it happen again. These engines however have WEAK oil pumps so you have to change oil out religiously at 3500 to 4500 and MUST use OEM oil filters ONLY because they are engineered to distribute oil better on startups etc., being direct injection aspiration using atleast a good midgrade fuel like shell or BP to keep cleaner helps with carbon buildup. Maintenance, premaintenance and predictive maint are key to keeping ANY car going the distance.
**Beware of goofylube/oil change chains, they are going to use the cheapest of oil, oil filters etc., RUN!

Just had my engine replaced on a 2018 Hyundai Kona with a 1.6 liter engine. Car only had 78, 000 miles and all oil changes were up to date because Hyundai requested proof of maintenance.
