You mentioned that you thrifted and obtained a lot of your furnishing secondhand, would you be able to do a video showing what items you got secondhand?

This one may not be for everyone but I buy in bulk, and I don't mean going to the bulk store and using my own container, I mean the things we eat a lot of (oatmeal, beans, and rice) I buy in 25 lb bags, less packaging/they usually come in paper bags and we will finish them well before the end of their shelf life because those are our staples. It's also usually cheaper per pound to buy in bulk.

I hope this message helps you. 🙂

Powdered laundry detergent and powdered dishwasher detergent is often overlooked and is not as prominent in stores but all parts are recyclable, the cardboard box and plastic scoop. Those laundry sheets are like more Earth friendly but if the price is holding you back, go with powder!

I love the way when you say that we do not need to right now go and buy sustainably stuff to be as fast as possible eco friendly. You encourage people to be that person but in their own time and when the feel it it's time being that person - not super extreme but just to do a little to save our planet 🌐

I never realized how I'm already doing some of these things! Like turning off lights, adjusting temperatures, using reusable straws, and carrying reusable water bottles :)

These swaps are definitely doable, I've implemented most of these during the last few years. The menstrual cup has been a game changer for me! I used to get bad rashes and painful infections from pads, I found out I was allergic to them so the menstrual cup is gold for me.

I have a menstrual cup, but it just never felt right to me, I now use washable/re-usable pads and love them.

I’ve always been the person to have a ton of plastic grocery bags at home and would ALWAYS forget to reuse them when going back to the store. THIS YEAR I committed to remembering to bring in my own plastic bags and have cut my use of plastic bags by probably 75%!

I'm not very sustainable but I try. I started period cups, reusable face wipes and laundry sheets to start and they have taken so less effort on my side it's amazing. Looking into dryer wool balls and reusable freezer bags currently

I haven't used a single plastic straw or bottle for the last four years. It just takes a little bit of commitment. We all can do it.

I've gotten really in to sustainability recently, and I've been learning about sustainable swaps. I personally use reusable menstrual pads (there is menstrual underwear, too). I don't want to use a period cup because inserting anything up there wigs me out lol. But reusable pads that you can wash is more sustainable than the sustainable ones! Cuts down on odor, too.

Great ideas 👍I've stopped using shampoo and shower gel in plastic packaging and have swapped to soap and shampoo bars, I'm also going to make my own cleaning products and deoderant and as things wear out I'm going to replace them with sustainable alternatives.

I love wool dryer balls. Not only do they reduce static, but also they soften clothing and reduce wrinkles. I often put clothing that I’ve already hung to dry in the dryer on the cool air setting to soften them.

YES on using a cup, Ashlynne! I RAVE about it to my friends, because it is really easy to use and a GAMECHANGER!

I love this video. I think low waste/zero waste seems intimidating or crazy expensive at first but once you start making small changes it eventually becomes routine. I have food low waste products on marketplace/thrift shops.

Good luck on your journey everyone!

Thank you for these sustainable habits! I've been trying to move more into a sustainable lifestyle, but did not know about some of these, definitely going to start implementing all of these into my routines now!

Thumbs up for the menstrual cup! It was a gamechanger for me too. My periods have actually become manageable, and I regret not looking into it sooner (almost ten years ago here too). The amount of logistics and worry is reduced to almost nothing, no products to remember to continually replenish, which means a lot less waste, in every sense of the word - garbage and money and time.

For me, it's all about constant decluttering. If I don't need it I don't keep it!
