The handheld shower is not just more practical for washing yourself, it also makes giving your dog a bath so much easier, and I honestly have no clue how people even clean their shower/bathtub without one? How do you rinse the walls? With a bucket?

Good for you on insisting on having your days off truly be off! I hope you can continue to do this and honestly, that workers rights in the USA implement this in the future ....

My mother, who was German but had lived in UK since 1947 went to the doctor with a sore throat, which the GP could not diagnose and suggested that she visit an ENT specialist. The UK NHS specialist had a min. 12month waiting list but the private doctor just a week. However, as she was imminently travelling to Germany to visit her sister she postponed the appointment until she got back. On arriving in Germany my aunt took her to a GP's appointment the next morning, he similarly could not diagnose the cause and booked her in with the German ENT specialist that afternoon. He diagnosed the problem and prescribed medication, which was effective within days, on top of all this she did not have to pay nor show her EHIC to verify she was exempt from charges. On returning to UK she went to her ENT appointment where the doctor confirmed the diagnosis. Twelve months later the NHS ENT specialist called her for an appointment, which she cancelled - such is the state of the UK NHS.

I have always used a washcloth. I am surprised that people don't scrub dirt off their bodies.

When I was growing up in Poland we didnt even have a fridge :) My mom went daily to the store and bought what we need for that day for dinner and supper and my dad got up always 15 minutes early to get milk, buns and bread in the morning :) Now here in Canada I have 2 fridges and 3 freezers. I lost control what I have there :(

Hübsche Frisur Hayley. Da stimme ich dir zu liebe Hayley. Es ist besser jeden oder jeden zweiten Tag frisch zu kochen, anstatt zu viel Tiefkühlwaren zu essen. 🙂🌹

For the 1. point: a good old german "Waschlappen" helps. 2. Water has not so many minerals in it in all of germany. It depends on the pkace you are in germany.

You can just change the shower head in your bathroom. It is screwed on and you can buy shower heads with a hose.

Yeah. In the US, we have a _lot_ to learn about work-life balance.

you can get a pretty fancy handheld shower for $20-$30, and a basic one for about $14; and install it yourself with just a wrench and a towel; and easily put back the original when you move out.... how effed up is your HOA that they prevent you from doing even that much? are they invading your bathroom every morning to inspect your shower?

Your German boyfriend is so much more German than my German husband (streichwurst!?). Wow.

Shopping for vegetables a month in advance is easy. You slice it up, vacuum seal it, and freeze it. My garden, you get 20 sweet peppers, 20 cucumbers, etc. I can't eat all of this, so freezing or canning it is your best option. It's the same with meat. I have cubed red meat from 6 months ago in my freezer. It's vacuum sealed, so it's like I just froze it. A lot of Germans (not all) aren't used to having humongous freezers.

The last time I designed a shower installation without a hand shower was about 30 years ago, since then all the showers have had fixed o/h rain showers with a diverter valve for a hand unit or at the least a hand shower. How do you clean a shower with just a fixed head?

I assume the issue with the misunderstanding of the healthcare care is, because people mixup the German Privatversicherung with the American healthcare system. It is not like even with the private insurance plans in Germany one could just skip lines or buy one's appointment, but there was a time, when it was easier to get an appointment when paying cash. That's illegal, though.

SQUEEGEE FOR LIFE!!! Not kidding, I bring my own squeegee to hotels when I'm traveling. Not because I want the shower to be easy clean, but because there's no better way to keep the humidity low after using the shower. The water doesn't need to evaporate either from the surface or from a cloth you wipe it with, the water just disappears into the drain. At home there's of course also the cleaning aspect, but it's a major game changer when it comes to humidity and therefore also mold and all the rest that comes with high humidity in a home.
