If you ask Americans why certain race-related jokes, comments or actions (blackfacing) are offensive, they will explain to you that this is because of the history of slavery, Jim Crow laws, the Ku Klux Klan, minstrel shows, and so on. So basically because of the specific American history and its aftereffects. Then it should be no surprise that these things are not automatically offensive in a country with a different history where black people never had to live as slaves. The same is true the other way around: Nazi jokes, references, costumes, hand gestures are quite offensive in Germany. Americans are a lot more relaxed with that. Not because Americans are "politically incorrect" but because each country has its own culture and these things are just not as offensive in a country without a Nazi history.

Here in Northern Germany the waiters in a restaurant are asking if everything is fine, not every five minutes but once.

Speaking of being too direct ...

In my opinion, the piano parts in this video are too loud ... and it´s not meant rude in any way !
I really enjoy all your music-choices just as much as your awesome footage in general - but this time it felt, like the music is more than twice as loud as your voice and turning down the volume didn´t really work :) !

Have an awesome and successful gameday - fingers are crossed !

I miss the time I lived at different European countries and I will be left alone to have my meal in a restaurant or shop comfortably by myself. As I live in the US now, I really don’t like the American way of asking about helping me while shopping or if the food is good constantly.

Totally agree with your restaurant take. I prefer the service in Europe over that of the USA. They always seem to come back and ask you how everything is right after you have taken a bite of food in the USA. You can't help but think they are trying to "tap dance, " for their tips in the USA. The wait staff in Europe is paid well and have great benefits. They have no need for fake charm.

I don't know how this ended up on my recommendations, but THANK YOU YouTube. How did they know I love shirtless men? 😂

I lived in Germany for years, because my Daddy was stationed over there and kept putting in for Germany, I got married twice over there and my daughter was born in a Military hospital there. I found German people extremely lovely and their customs didn't bither me or my family at all. My family is direct anyways, we correct also and Germans aren't rude, they just respect other peoples privacy. I came back to the US and found it a huge cultural shock, but after years of being back, I still have my German ways, even though I'm American.

The background piano 🎹 music 🎼 is so loud, I thought I was watching a Greek documentary.

Please excuse our correction culture. Be sure that we like someone, although we correct him!

Most of the race influx in germany is modern. I grew up with the russian and turkish wave. knowing fluent russian, turkish, polish, italian and other languages swearing words. Seriously in my class there are 2 real germans (I´m half iranian) and we all made rascist jokes... It is common because we are all germans in the end. I have a friend his father comes from africa. He is the most german person I know and he is pitch black. He once said: If I where white german I would be a Nazi too.
He is super strict with laws and allways on time and also hates kids that listen to loud music or come too close too his barn. But he is a pleasant and nice person who works hard and the comunity loves him.
Two weeks ago i was in a bar and it was the most rascist round I ever sat in. No "white" germans. Every race received a bashing for being asocial to german society etc. Then it came to me. Being german is a behaviour and not your color or race. If you grow up her it will wash over on you. There are syrians literally fleeing germany because they fear for their children to become germans. People judge you by your merrits in the end. If you are good all the racial slurs end out of respect.

I think the point of beeing direct depends on the situation. I won't say Germans are always direct!
As a fan it is easier to tell you directly that you sucked and can do better. ;-)

But in a resteraunt almost nobody says that dinner sucked and they could do better. Over 90% are just going away and won't come again.
I don't really know the difference between these examples, but maybe it is because of:
-point of motivation and being close to a player like a friend (football)
-point of (indirect) discontent (telling the waiter that the meal wasn't good which was made by the chef)

I seem to vaguely remember that even Germany had a history with some of these racial issues.
