ABOUT THIS VIDEO

Doctors and surgeons often attribute hip pain and stiff hips to bone problems. They say FAI and hip osteoarthritis are the causes of these issues. Then there's nothing you can do to help yourself. Dennis shares his story of training his hips at Upright Health. He worked with Mitch for four days in a row to improve his hip mobility.

He shares what he learned and the results he got in only a week of doing specific hip exercises chosen specifically to help him.

Always think muscles and you too can improve your hip problems.

So energized! I'm in Upright Health's Live Hip Class, Week 7 and insights keep coming. I realize it's about strengthening for me, along with the stretch and I'm feeling MUCH better today and like I'm gonna kick this thing. Pain SUCKS. Life Shouldn't. I bow.

You describe my exact situation. Excruciating. I has MRI.... Ortho says no fracture, no bone issues in hips. I have degenerative arthritis I back. No labrum tare. No reason for this pain I am a country line dance teacher. My first sign was about 7 mo ago when my leg csught and had pain in groin area down femor.
I can hardly sit.. Getting up is excruciating. Have to lay down to get relief.
Not sure what to do next.

Regarding a person who has difficulty in putting on his socks, due to the fact that he has osteoarthritis in the hip joint, resulting in lack of range of motion, there is a technique which makes it easier for a person to put on his socks. This technique is to lie on a bed, with knees bent, and put the foot you are trying to put the sock on UNDERNEATH the other leg, and then put on the sock from this position, rather than trying to put on the sock from directly in front of the body.

The first point is that the client has only been at Upright Health for a week, which is far too early to evaluate how successful a program is in correcting a physical condition. I would be much more interested in hearing about the success of the client in 6 months or a year after adhering to the strengthening exercises from Upright Health. A second point is that since the client can sit in a chair and put his leg on the other knee at a fairly perpendicular to the floor angle, it does not look like he has severe osteoarthritis of his hip joints. Usually people with severe osteoarthritis of the hip joints do not have enough range of motion in the hip joints to do this. A third point is that I think the client probably has two problems with his muscles and ligaments, although this is pure conjecture. The first problem is that certain muscles have become weak, since when a person stops doing certain movements or motions, then the muscles that are involved in these motions become weak because they are not longer performing these functions. This point agree with what Upright Health is saying. The certain point is that I believe that certain of the clients muscles and ligaments have become tight and need stretching, because when a muscle becomes weak, it usually becomes tight as well. Furthermore, other muscles and ligaments try to fill in and do the work of the weak muscles, so these other muscles and ligaments tend to become tight as well. Thus even though the client mentions that he had tried stretching, I think he probably was not stretching the right muscles, or perhaps even if he was stretching the right muscle and ligaments, his method of stretching them may not be the best.

Even if it's totally bone grinding on bone with absolutely zero cartilage in between?

Wow! Dennis described the exact same issues that I've been battling for about four years, now! Canadian, too. LOL And I've also tried so many different kinds of practitioners. I'm a little older, at 63, but ya, putting socks on in the morning is barely doable. Getting a permanent limp recently. I'm still active (soccer, golf, and gym [not as often as I should]), but I'm desperate to get better. I'd be up for a "parachute program" vacation! I need the one-on-one. How long or how frequently would I need to visit? And where?
