What is FAI?

Some athletes may struggle with a condition called a Femoral Acetabular Impingement, or FAI. Although everyone's FAI is different, it may cause pain, limit the range of motion of the hip, or damage the labrum. Sadly, I was diagnosed with FAI (CAM type) some months ago. I may undergo surgery soon. This video is great in explaining the medical procedure and the cause of the pain. Really well done! :) I'm still terrified about doing it, but there seems to be no other choice.

I think I have it unfortunately, I do play football a lot like 3-4 days a week. Now I had to stop playing because every time I started to move I feel pain. And the worse part is is not one of them but both sides

I have to disagree about FAI not being caused by an injury.

I was in a bad accident where my hip got dislocated. I immediately had to change the way I slept because it hurt a little in certain positions. Most of the time it wasn't bad. It took about 6 months for it to hurt badly enough to go to the doctor.

It took years for it to be correctly diagnosed as FAI. My surgery was a great success.

I think the delay of it badly hurting after an accident hides the fact that FAI can be caused by an injury. After all, it takes some time for the bone to grow, so it makes sense it wouldn't be a problem right away. I think the delay after an injury gives some doctors the idea that it's not caused by an injury.

On a side note... if the medical community doesn't know the cause, then how can the rule anything out like an injury. You may be ruling out the cause and that's why the cause is unknown. I know the cause of my pain was from an injury and it turned out to be FAI.

I have pudendal pain in the same side than the FAI of the hip, urinary issues, obturator internus cronic spasm.

Hello? I am a man living in Seoul, South Korea. At the university hospital, Hip joint CAM type was informed after surgery that if you cut more bones, you will get avascular ecosis of the femoral head, so you couldn't cut a lot. The doctor explained that pain after surgery should be lived like that for the rest of your life. Is this true?

I got diagnosed with cam type fai yesterday and I’m 16 doctor said surgery was too risky for me and said I shouldn’t play sports... really sucks because I’m a very active guy
