This technique is called Progressive Relaxation and it works! I used to use it in college when I had horrible anxiety.

I learned this technique, not for falling asleep, but for pain control.
It’s effective.

I have my own technique:
1) Find a really comortable position.
2) Breath slow and relaxed
3) Start counting your breathing on every exhale BACKWARDS from 250. If you loose your count you have to start over from 250 again. It clears your mind becsuse you can not think of anything distracting.

Works every time. I rarely manage to get passed 170-180 before falling asleep.

Actually I learned that if you think of a memory instead of imagining something usually helps a lot more. You're using a different part of the brain when you're remembering a core memory rather than spending energy of creating new things. It definitely makes me fall asleep much faster

I have chronic insomnia. I had brain cancer, and my brain doesn't naturally make sleep hormones, so I physically cannot sleep without use of about 5 (or more some nights) sleep aids. My average bedtime is around 4 am.

I tried that, and it has helped on some particularly stubborn nights. It definitely doesn't take just two minutes for me, more like 10 or 15. It was your video I saw that got me to try it, so I appreciate it!

I’ve been struggling with insomnia the past few weeks. My husband, who can be rather pushy, had me look up military techniques to falling asleep. I tried it last night and wah-lah! I slept through the night, with only one kitty-provoked wake up. But… I fell back to sleep. I got 8 hours total!

This is actually what I use when my mind is racing and I can’t sleep. It works wonderfully! Now to figure out how to stay asleep…

I’ve been practicing this technique for well over 30 + years, even to this day, now that I’ve retired from the Military. It has helped tremendously in those times of war, but as I transferred back into civilian life. There are many stresses in life that are not associated with the high stresses, and demands of military life. But there are associations of stress that build up, even in civilian settings. This is a very good technique 😇🙏👍

It's 'yoga nidra' i didn't know so many people (10m+) not know this.
Its fairly common for any yoga practitioner.
If thats the case then i think, other ways of curing hypertension and depression may also be very useful for anyone who hasn't started yoga.
Good luck exploring more, hope people in need get there.

I remember doing this at yoga class. Ahh.. that 15 min sleep felt like 7hrs of sleep. You feel super energized after this.

I'm using a similar technique, but in the morning to stop me from waking up and going to work. Works every time.

For those who think this is to much work : My tip is to turn on an audio clip with speech only. Be sure the clip is around 30 - 60 mins. You don’t have to do anything, you re just listening to an audioclip. What works best ? Space stuff. Try channels like Event Horizon or Cool Worlds. Make the volume so low you can hear it, but barely. Place the phone or device on which it’s playing next to your bed. On YouTube, be sure you don’t have commercials. Turn autoplay off . Worked for me. Close your eyes and listen to it. Don’t panic if it doesn’t work within a few minutes. Good luck, hope it helps some people here.

I was taught this technique back in late 1986 or early 87 by a nurse from the hospital where my son was about to be born. It works!❤

My life will change! Since I was a kid I've been such an overthinker and my mind does not shut down before bed. Now it finally will!

edit: it worked! The first night was really hard, but it's been easier and easier since then and I'm already seeing results and I won't be sleep deprived any more!

When I start having thoughts that keep me awake at night I think no not now, not now. I put those thoughts away for the night knowing that they are not more important than my health. Like the songs say what will be will be but I will not let it bother me tonight. Telling those thoughts to go away really works don't let them control your life or make you sick. Just tell them to go away.
