Emotional Tracking/ Awareness- The Practice (Part 2) Dr. Sarno

This is the practical follow-up from the part 1 primer on how to feel your emotions. Go here first if you are new to this practice:

With chronic pain and chronic symptoms, many times there is an emotional component to the the physical symptoms. The goal is to learn to move towards and feel the emotional side of pain instead of always being drawn into the sensory side of pain. This is because emotions can underlie physical symptoms and can be the cause of the symptoms. In this video I go over a somatic practice of learning to feel your painful emotional feelings instead of your painful physical symptoms.

Wow! That was powerful! I didn’t realize that I felt so angry and hopeless because my pain had increased when I tried to walk more each day. This exercise really got me in touch with how I was feeling and I ended up crying and really feeling my anger while you were talking. The pain which was quite significant when I started, faded as I became aware of my emotions. Thank you so much for doing these videos.

Thank you so much again! Mostly no feeling then suddenly a brief feeling of sadness like an ache in my chest and a sort of boiling anger and then it was gone. I will keep practicing! I love listening to the gentle way you explain and lead us through the exercise.

Not what I was expecting. Pure sadness. It was nice to sit with the feeling and just relax into it. My left foot, one of my pain areas, was trying to interrupt with sharper stabbing pain and I just kept coming back to my heart. Thank you.

That was intense... wow. I felt such intense anger it scared me, I didn't realize. I didn't know how to stop it and I wanted to stop feeling such anger and irritability but I kept feeling. I allowed myself, it then calmed down.. slowly changing to sadness. Amazing

What a fabulous example of brain retraining and the practice of feeling our emotions rather than focusing on our physical symptoms! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.-Sara Moore, CHt, HypnoHelp Services

Wow, You're amazing Mr Prussack. How powerful is our brain diverting these emotions all the time. My symptoms dialled right down and I felt better about going to the activity that I was anxious about..🙏❤️

Today when I did this I first felt angry and hot that I didn’t know I was suppressing my emotions all these years to the point of physical illness, then I felt sadness. Thanks, Jim.

I'm trying to learn all about emotions and how they manifest in the body, even got a picture showing in 'infrared' how different emotions are felt in the body. Today I got anger, sadness and disgust. These step by step videos are invaluable. It makes me sad how I never learnt how to discern such a basic human thing as emotions.

The last few rimes I've done this exercise, I've struggled to find a symptom!
I then go straight to the emotion I'm feeling.
It may be something that happened that upset me. Been doing this since it came out four weeks ago on a daily basis.
Thank you Jim. It's made all the difference to me.

Thank You! Just sat with this at first couldn't decide what the emotion was.. Then deep sadness came over me and cried my eyes out! Not something I do normally! I will definately be repeating this one! Have had chronic pain and lots of other strange symptoms for over 10 years so I'm thinking it will take a while to release 🤔? 💕

Hi Jim, I love all your videos and they are so helpful! I’ve been using your guided somatic tracking video but I found this emotional tracking to be more helpful as I am able to feel my feelings better. I have a question. Do I have to know “why” I’m feeling certain emotions? I find myself trying to analyze the cause of my emotion and it’s actually giving me anxiety because I can’t figure it out. Thank you for what you do :)
