My hubby was a kidney stone factory, but since going keto, that has stopped and is going on 4 years now, with the bonus of no joint pains, skin tags disappeared, highest stamina and went from high blood pressure all his life/meds to completely normal with no meds. Best decision ever 🎉

I was doing green drink smoothies for my ‘health’. I got a kidney stone from that! Thought I was doing something healthy. WRONG! Only greens I eat now is lettuce to wrap my burger patty or in a small side salad. Everything they tell us about food is WRONG! Thanks Dr Berry. Keep telling the truth, some of us are listening❤

Fixed my kidney stones with vinegar. Drank 1/8 cup 2 times daily. In 3 days stones gone pain gone.

Spinach is super high in oxalates. I don’t care for it but many do. I prefer collards which are quite low.

I was doing Keto when I got a kidney stone.I was eating spinach salads and a lot of tea.That was 18 years ago.I haven’t had a kidney stone since.I do carnivore these days.

You could easily eat lots of oxalates on keto, by eating a lot of spinach, dark chocolate, and almonds every day... All low carb, keto-friendly foods.

I remember seeing my dad writhing in agony on the couch from a kidney stone. A doctor arrived (yes, a house call, it was awhile ago!), gave him an injection and eventually a tiny irregular shaped black stone was passed, caught by a handkerchief. Never seen anyone in so much pain, his whole body would spasm one way then another as he grunted in pain.

It’s interesting because I’ve been on a plant-based diet for 15+ years, eat a lot of veggies and greens, and I feel absolutely fantastic. The bloodwork is great as well. I really enjoy hearing different perspectives on things. What I do works wonderfully for me but I know we’re all different!

You're right when you say "tipically", but there are many folks out there munching on large quantities of oxalate-heavy foods: spinach, chard, parsley, black pepper, beets, berries, nuts, dark chocolate... They can keep their ketosis while still taking a lot of oxalate.

BUT you can have stones already built up from other bad diets & when you go keto or carnivore you’re likely to “dump” them causing a lot of issues & people think having a low oxalates diet is the issue. It’s not, it’s that they were already built up & are trying to get out now!

I think the reason why people "think" they get kidney stones on keto is because they already had them before but you start eating cleaner and your body is more willing to get rid of the stones.

High intake of animal protein, including red meat, increases the amount of calcium and uric acid excreted in urine, and reduces citrate levels-a substance that helps prevent stones from forming. These changes create an environment favorable for both uric acid and calcium-based stones. Red meat is rich in purines, compounds that the body breaks down into uric acid. Excess uric acid can crystallize and form uric acid stones, especially if urine is too acidic.
I've lost a lot of weight on the carnivore diet and have much better health... all except the 12mm stone that took me 10 days of complete agony to pass. Uric acid stone. I think the main thing I did wrong was not drink enough water... which I am prone to do. DRINK LOTS OF WATER on the carnivore diet.

Have a friend who lives on the standard American diet. He always gets kidney stones when he drinks mountain dew. Wondering if it's the citric acid breaking up the stones so they can pass??

To much spinach, tea, peanuts, chocolate, raspberries
daily got me oxalate problems and not enough calcium in my body to break it down Everyone is different drink alot of water w lemon and vinegar not gonna go thru that pain again🤞

My cholesterol levels had raised after 3 months of KETO diet . So I stopped keto and back to calories diet .
