Very important, not nearly enough talked about point. If you are doing a bachelor or master's degree in german, be prepared for your C1/C2 level not actually be enough to feel comfortable taking classes at a university level in germany. It will get better so be patient with yourself!
Another important thing to keep in mind is a lot of regions have their own dialect, so even if you speak and understand "hoch deutsch" really well, there will be an additional adaptation time to feel comfortable in the dialect. Knowing dialect is also important inbmy opinion, since if you ever go to the doctor, or have to do bureacratic things, the people who will be talking to you, are most likely from the region and will speak dialect instead of high german to you. This is even the case if you go to the bakery and want some bread.
