Isn't it obvious that you need German in Germany? 😮

I‘m always surprised that people who move into a foreign country are not trying to learn a bit of the language beforehand. It’s horribly impolite to expect everyone to speak English.

Why would anyone be surprised that it is helpful to know the native language in daily life?

"You need to be able to speak german in Germany"

I really dislike how she framed the 1st one.

It's not just "something you'll need if you move to Germany".

Learning a country's lamguage is the absolute bare minimum if you want to move there. Don't expect applause for learning the language of the country you live in. Except, expect ridicule for not wanting to learn it.

Wait, you need to speak the native language in a new country? 😮

Honestly as someone from Berlin I get so annoyed with all of the Brits Aussies and Americans living there not making a SINGLE effort to learn German. I can’t speak German going to most of my favorite cafes or stores in Berlin cause they all don’t speak German. That’s kind of crazy in the capital city of my home country. It’s great that Berlin is so international don’t get me wrong. The thing is that there is zero effort, they don’t even say danke or hallo which is the least I would do if I wouldn’t know the language working in a different country. The thing is, it’s only Brits, Americans and aussies who act this entitled expecting everyone to speak their language in a German city. Everyone else from every other country learns and has to learn the language and then they get ridiculed or people are racist against them because they don’t speak good enough German, when they are actually trying( and English is also something they have to learn so speaking English for them is already harder). I hate this white double standard and the entitlement of these English speaking people compared to people from all other countries coming here.

Who would think that you need the language of the country you are moving to? D'oh

My son is German but studied in the Netherlands. The first thing he did was learning dutch! It shows respect and makes life so much easier! Meanwhile he speaks dutch fluently 😊

Most important thing to know before moving to Berlin: don’t move there.

I dislike the framing of point 3: it is not dark and gray until may- complete over exaggeration. From March onwards, the weather tends to get nicer and warmer, with more day light and great sunny days occasionally.

DW habt ihr nichts besseres zu tun als solche Videos, die nichtmal 1% Deutschlands repräsentieren?

I myself live in Berlin and I hate when tourists come to me and speak to me in english as if it’s the normal thing to do, they don’t even ask anymore. It’s not hard to learn basic phrases like „where is …“ . I am always happy to help but I hate when people assume that everybody speaks English cause they do not.

In any nation you go you need to know the language of that country. Or carry a phone with good battery life with Google translate that works too

"Anmeldung" means "registration", according to Wiktionary. Obvious when you come from countries like France, but the US ?

I've lived abroad a big part of my adult live and yet have to see a country where you don't have to register if you need something. Can someone explain me how you else would get a phone line, if you don't register (place an order) your interest? Is there a place you just move without registering unless you want to live underground and not make use of infrastructure or live on someone's goodwill?

And the language, yes, you can live with English alone, I just don't get why you would move abroad if you don't want to take part in local culture and that requires language skills. If you just want to live somewhere else but continue to speak your language, then move to another city within your country.
