How to IMPROVE Your Eye Health - 3 Eye Care Tips

People often ask about what they can do to better take care of their eyes. In this video, Dr. Allen shares 3 health tips to improve your eyes and prevent health conditions from progressing. If you value your eye health and eyesight, then incorporating these health tips should be helpful.

After a routine eye exam, these are the top 3 tips I like to discuss so that people can take better care of their eyes and prevent vision loss. The first thing is to eat healthy. The retina in the back of the eye is the most highly metabolic tissue in the body and requires a lot of antioxidants to protect itself from oxidative damage and inflammation. Green leafy vegetables are rich in Lutein which has been found to be great for your eyes.

Easy to read article on Lutein and eye health:

Wearing sunglasses and protecting the eyelids from sunlight damage by wearing a wide brimmed hat can also help reduce eye strain as well as prevent future eye disease from UV light exposure.

I also encourage people to clean their eyelashes on a daily basis. That is because a lot of people neglect to clean their eyelids and eyelashes and it is common to see inflammation of the eyelids and dry eye as a result.

Very interesting. When I changed my diet after a mild heart attack, my annual eye exams continuously showed improvement requiring a new script. Kiddingly, I told my ophthalmologist that it must be the carrots, and he said it was more likely the spinach. Thanks for this great information!

Since watching your channel I've already started wearing sunglasses more often and doing a warm compression almost every night (I have dry eyes). I might be imagining things but my eyes do feel better and safer. So thank you for that!
I would definitely like to see a video on nutrition for eye health.

I didn’t realize how crappy my eyes were feeling in the mornings until I started cleaning them every night and noticing how good they felt in the mornings! I had never woken up without puffiness/itching until then and just didn’t know they could feel any different 😬

Thank you for this, because I was never told by my eye drs or specialists to Eat the leafy greens--they push the pills instead of healthy diets. Thank you for your honesty. I love my leafy greens & control my health by diet thankfully ❤

I like the fact that dark green leafy vegetables are good for the eyes. I love salads and all vegetables. So that is a plus since I eat plenty of them. Found the sunlight protection helpful as well as keeping my eyelids clean, which I do. Thanks for the great videos and handsome smiles. 😎

I really enjoy salads and green beans etc. I lived close to the ocean in Southern California and learned about the value of sunglasses at all times. What I hadn’t appreciated was even with removing my eye makeup I need to do a better job of it. Thank you Doctor 👍

I like his idea of the smoothies. I'm a care giver for my 93 y.o. mom. I make her a smoothie everyday. My biggest concern was her getting and occasional UTI from the uncooked vegetables, and someone at her age this can quickly turn into a very serious illness. My naturopathic Dr says to make sure to clean all fruits or vegetables before eating. He even recommended when coming in from the grocery to put them all in a plastic bucket or clean kitchen sink - including bananas, onions, and fill with water and add a tablespoon of chlorox and let them sit for 30", then rinse very very well, before you bring all these bugs in your house. He says, go look at the grocery of how many people are handling the food before they buy it. Also all these veggies could have eColi, which lives in the soil - even though they are "organic" - and need to wash them well. The naturopath also states, Dont eat any raw fruit /vegetables /salads, etc., from restaurants. No telling if, or how well, they were washed, or who has been handling them. He states, if you go to Asia - you'll rarely find any raw vegetables to eat, due to the high rate of disease there - everything is cooked well.

I have avoided much of this by buying FROZEN vegetables and fruit. They have all been rinsed and blanched before freezing. I make the smoothie with frozen spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, other greens; mango, pineapple, berry mix. Buy the chopped vegetables, which are easier to manage. Every couple of days I fill the smoothie containers with veggies and fruit, and put them back in the freezer, then put one in the fridge overnight to thaw. In the morning I add Almond Milk, water, yogurt, protein power, flax or chia seeds. I also get some green powders from Bulk Supplements - the green spirulinas and beet powders, and add some of that. I'm careful not adding too much, to not overwhelm her system.
Often I make her a chocolate smoothie with chocolate protein powder and peanut butter, and also with cauliflower and broccoli and fruit -blueberries or pineapple - it's amazing, it tastes like a chocolate smoothie - you cant taste the vegetables.

I hope this helps everyone. It's very easy to make, and I think easiest way to assure me and mama are getting vegetables and nutrients everyday.

I got freaked out when you were cleaning your eyes. Generally, because I have mutated mucous membranes I tend to brush my teeth carefully, but enjoyably, avoiding another oral cancer scare. It took me a while to get used to it. Using that device with the brush on the end on your eye reminded me of teeth-brushing, so I just want to say I think you definitely need to only clean your eye slowly, and enjoyably if possible. That's my theory for not accidentally hurting myself further anyhow. Also, more nutritional science will be much appreciated in future, thanks Dr. Allen!

Great video Doc. I had always believed that carrots are really good for your eye health until now. Never thought about the leafy greens though. And with number 3, even though I do wash my eyes regularly just with water throughout the day because I don't like getting dust or stuff in them, I didn't think about the other methods you spoke about. I'll keep an eye out for them! Cheers.

I already cleanse my lids and lashes and wear sunglasses so I loved your tip for eating more leafy greens! I’ve been a little slack in making my green smoothies in my Vitamix blender. Time to start blending again!🤗

I am nearsighted and I recently saw an ad that popped up about a eye vision supplement. In the follow up video you mentioned can you please review the product Sight Care, its ingredients and if products like these are really too good to be true. Thanks in advance for being so informative.

I really like the Myboclean Brush and gel to keep my eyelashes clean. I wake up sometimes with crusty eyelashes and if I don't clean them in the morning, I'll get irritation all day. The brush just cleans it all away within seconds and the gel is so soothing.
