This is why you should be running OBS in portable mode. You can have your good ol' v26 along with v27 while also testing and validating v28.

As a 30 year vet in IT, I agree that you don't fix what's not broken, but it's equally important to keep your software up to date. Fortunately, OBS allows us to do both at the same time.

I've been using OBS 28 for a while now, since all of my plugins have been updated.

I've seen a great improvement on editing in your videos from past ones! They're a great!

If you want to try OBS 28 before updating your current setup, I suggest installing it fresh in its own folder. You can then import assets from your current OBS to test things out. This is what I did before making the switch.

I didn't update my "Main" OBS for practically the same reasons...I use StreamFX a lot!!! I have also found that with OBS 28 (With or without StreamFX Alpha) it crashes a minute or two after sending virtual cam through Skype, Meet, Teams ect!!!! making my work impossible (I teach Online and use OBS as my main everything platform!!). I've had the same problem with Discord, YouTube and Twitch!!! (i7 12th Gen - RTX 3070ti - 32GB Ram - 600 Fibre...more than enough) I would also warn people that some "Updates" for plugins stop working in OBS 27!!! So keep your Zip files well logged. Thanks for your videos

I usually find you slight on several topics, but you got the point here.

Speaking as a Mac user on OBS, it has cut my CPU usage in half. My Twitch talking source was taxing my CPU almost 35%. Now it’s cut down to 15-18%. I was having problems with the Canon Webcam Utility, but I fixed that too. OBS 28 is a must have for people streaming on their Mac, especially if you have had any dropped frames because of CPU overload.

I appreciate the compatibility list shown here Michael. Since you have shown it I was able to check what plugins I have and found out they worked with 28. I did finally switch to 28.3. Thank you!

Thank you Mike!!! I really appreciate all the tutorials.

Edit : I updated at first last month, everything broke I downgraded and have been skipping this version from here on out. Waiting until an improvent I need comes. Otherwise, staying on 27.xx

I've held off updating because of not being able to figure out which plugins are updated. Your list link is very helpful.

I started watching you a few weeks ago because I have been teaching music via zoom online. Your videos helped me branch out to obs!

I won’t upgrade to obs 28 till you say it’s safe!!

Thanks!

I was one who foolishly updated to OBS 28 when it was released as there was some features I was excited about. But not having NDI available was a momentum killer as I was really planning on using the whole "stream from one PC, record/play from another" methodology for flexabilty in my production.

I also hit a problem as they changed their websocket technology, and the software I use (Matricapp) for controlling mylive stream wasn't compatible, so I had to install another plugin for work around.

Lots of minor problems. I haven't had any major issues with OBS28 since I started using it other than pushing back my timeline for additional edited content. Which, sucks. But I primarily stream twice a week here on the YouTubes so wasn't stopping me. Just changing my growth strategy timelines.

So far my OBS v28 works like I need it too. I don't use a lot of fancy plugins so it hasn't really been a problem

I really like it and binned NDI a while ago, due to terrible lag and generally find it unreliable.
I now use Obs peer ro peer Ninja which works better than ever in 28.
My interview on Tueaday on my channel was amazing.
Also a but unfair on OBS Michael which as we all know is openspurce and frankly free to use. To ask users to test is fair I believe and a small price to pay. As below you can run it in parallel. Love the application audio feature and crossbars on sources.

I allowed my OBS to auto-update to 28. Everything broke. I had to completely uninstall and then reinstall 27. Then I had to reinstall my plugins. I think an update that is known to break the existing config should require more than a single click of 'update now' on a popup at launch. Thanks for talking sense!

"Leave it go?" I have never heard that expression before.

I did the update, the only thing that I noticed goes wrong, is my microphone. I have to unplug it and re plug it back in before I do any recording/streaming on OBS. It DOES see the Microphone, in the properties, and it is selected, but it won't "work" until I unplug it. I initially thought my microphone randomly died, until I tested it outside of OBS, and it worked fine.
