OBS Choppy Frames | How to fix with two settings

Two settings to change in OBS if you are getting choppy frames in your recordings. Leave any questions you may have in the comments and I will answer them.

I tried everything I could to prevent choppiness of the screen recording in OBS, but nothing works. There must be a better way.

Not sure who needs to hear this but if you are still running into issues go to help -> log files -> view previous log file and hit analyze. This will diagnose whatever is wrong with your stream and is a super easy fix. For me i was set to OpenGL when I should’ve been on DX11

nothing was wrong with my fps, my recording was glitching out very bad but i decided to follow this tutorial anyway, and it fixed it!! tysm!!

something with H.264 that makes it choppy, switching the video encoder worked for me

recording format MPEG4
video encoder x264

30000 kbps might make some lag if your PC is not that great, you can lower it to 10000 or even 5000 but you will sacrifice quality
Higher Kbps = Better quality, larger file size, taxing on PC
Lower Kbps = Lower quality, smaller file size, less taxing on PC

Hey, this helped get rid of the choppiness! Do you offer consulting sessions? I am using CamLink 4K, Elgato prompter, Sony ZV-E10, Tamron 10-18mm lens, OBS software, Elgato Camera Hub. ... I want to record in 4K, but my footage looks more like 1280x720. Would love to get help fixing this.

i dont understand i have a laptop with 3050 ryzen 6600 and still terrible lag and choppieness (lower than 8 fps) in screen recordings but in normal games im getting over 120 frames like it shouldnt be that difficult to record a screen, this didnt help
