As Stephen Hawking said: "If the government is covering up knowledge of aliens, they are doing a better job of it than they do at anything else".

There would be a big difference in people's reaction to announcing "We've discovered microbes on Mars" and announcing "There are intelligent aliens so far advanced they can appear and disappear in and out of our space time like gods".

Reminds me of the old Saturday Night Live news report: The Voyager space probe launched in 1977 carries a “golden record” that includes sounds of the Earth, including examples of our music. The first alien transmission received on Earth was finally translated and it said SEND MORE CHUCK BERRY.

I like the idea of alien mobsters running a protection racket being kept secret as part of the deal. "We wouldn't want nothin to happen to your pretty blue marble now would we."

I was having a really bad day, health stuff. Seeing a new jmg release cheered me up a bit.

When my grandparents were young, everyone believed in alien life on Mars and Venus. It didn't destroy religion or make the people go mad.

My grandfather used to tell me about how when the War Of The Worlds broadcast happened, his neighbors were basically preparing for battle. He went to bed that night and got up and went to work the next day like nothing happened. I remember him saying if something like that showed up, it wasn't gonna be much of a fight, more like a slaughter.

If there are any military, security and defense applications that can be gleaned from the detection of alien tech, the armed forces would most definitely keep that detection quiet.

The desire to have one's name eternally attached to this discovery in the history books will take care of everything😁

I think it’s safe to say it’s a matter of proximity. If we detect a signal far away, we’d hear about it. If they’re already here but aren’t announcing their presence, not a chance.

I believe that the various government organizations fear destabilization above just about all else. If they don't need to disclose, they won't, because they would likely value the peace and predictability that comes with maintaining the status quo over satisfying our curiosity.

The movie "Contact" explored this topic quite well. Spoiler: the government took over.

What people seem to forget about the Roswell explination given by the government as project Mogul, is that Mogul didn't start until near 2 years after the Roswell incident. Lol

Three astronomers may keep a secret about alien life, if two are frozen in carbonite.

A novel I read decades ago involved discovery of an alien civilization. The initial response was to assume they were a threat and launch a probe at relativistic velocity to destroy it. Another faction set out to stop this probe. The twist was that the aliens had launched their own probe to destroy earth.

With our luck, if we did get a message from an alien civilization, it would be a spam call letting us know that our vehicle extented warranty is about to expire.

The alien life topics are like a puddle of water, and my brain is a sponge that soaks it up, thats the best metaphor i can think of when it comes to this channel and Event Horizon channel

This guy is my favorite guy. Not afraid to ask questions that cut to the point and are hard to formulate in the first place.
