Childhood PTSD can have a devastating effect on our entire lives -- especially in our romantic partnerships. It can feel hopeless, but the great news is, when we focus on the part of our problem where we played a role, we CAN change.

In this short excerpt from my new online course, "Dating and Relationships for People with Childhood PTSD, you'll get a taste of my famous tough-love approach (with lots and lots of compassion) for changing our lives after a traumatic past.

Please Anne, you feel so empathic and so much insight...can you talk more about how CPTSD affects relationships (with blaming, projecting, pulling away etc) and how to become aware of it? how to see the difference, or even just KNOW there is a difference between past and present?

Ugh, yes you can change behaviors, but you cannot change the damage that occurs to your body later in life. Having the fight of flight stuck on for years causes physical damage, it’s like being abused all over again! All the illness caused by child abuse later in life is like being cursed! I’m sick of paying for what I had no control over as a child! I’m sick of being sick! No one talks about this! It’s proven that it happens but no one talks about the adult consequences of child abuse! How once you get your life together, it’ll just go to shit because your body falls apart, doctors aren’t educated on people being sick because of they were abused. I’m seriously sick of being sick! I’ve suffered enough! Yes be a good person, yes modify bad behavior, yes learn coping skills, but hang on cause the statistics of early death and chronic illness later in life is astronomical!!! It’s being abused all over again, because Doctors who are paid to care for you, really don’t give a shit’!!! It’s like being cursed! I’m so sick of suffering!!!

I think sometimes the emotional trauma a person goes through as a result of bad relationships is so severe you don't ever really fully recover. I always keep people at a distance I am polite concerned and I listen and I give my thoughts of a given situation if a person is open otherwise I keep my mouth shut. But I realize you have to face your fears and slay the dragon so I continue to learn as much I can or as much as I'm willing to learn about my condition. I realize I'm not the Lone Ranger the whole world suffers incredibly there's days I feel so blessed and there's other days, I wished I had never been born. I think my biggest problem you just get old and you get tired like my old dog besides being there whenever you're willing to share some love with her she kept the birds out of the yard. But she's old and tired now and doesn't chase the birds anymore. Maybe that's the way I feel about relationships.

How does this work for someone who not only has cptsd but is also autistic? (The autism diagnosis is nit a misdiagnosis of cptsd and was made by autism experts who were aware of the childhood trauma and cptsd).
