Man Who Didn't Sleep For 11 Days Explains Sleep Deprivation

Tony Wright broke a world record for staying awake for 11 days straight. In this clip from an interview on his own YouTube channel, he shares what he has learned about the capacity for humans to unlock the full potential of their brains.

Sleep deprivation has been common in ancient cultures around the world. It's not necessarily anything new.

This is not health advice. We do not recommend depriving yourself of sleep.

Tony Wright's interview garnered much media attention but don't forget that Tony has more to say about consciousness in his book (with Dennis McKenna as a contributor) Return of the Brain of Eden.

I did 72 hours no sleep, no food drink, no electricity, no mobile phone or internet communications . Only used candles, After 3 days I was so weak ... Never again, done as an experiment.

I remember staying up all night and at 10 in the morning decided to make music - I found that everything flowed perfectly and I wasn’t thinking about things as I’d normally do - for me that backs up to that it can unlock different parts of the brain.

ive gone 4 day periods with no sleep a lot of times due to lifestyle choices. i cant really explain what i learned without going on a rant but you do have awakenings that change you as a person.

It’s interesting to hear the voices around day 3-4. To the inexperienced, it sounds like nondistinct background chatter, as if you were sitting in a restaurant and could hear people talking around you in the background. On day 5 I was driving a guy around in my car, and the guy didn’t exist. He was nice though, comforting in a way.

Also peculiar is that I heard an orchestral song which I’d never heard before. The fact that my brain concocted a complete musical tune using (i suppose) preexisting data on its own is quite astonishing.

I do not disagree with Tony's findings. I have no authority or knowledge in the matters of sleep and its benefits...or the lack of sleep and its benefits. All I know is I go to bed around 9pm and I am up at 4am getting ready for the day. I don't think I am incorrect in stating that most everyone's job, regardless of profession requires attendance for a defined amount of time.
It can be supposed that if you left work on Friday at 4pm and stayed awake without drugs till the end of your shift on Monday you would have sucked as an employee on Monday.

I've experimented with Tony's ideas involving a fruit diet and plant medicines for over 10 years and can confirm there is something VERY accurate about his ideas.

The key component here is his raw plant based diet. Without that in place sleep deprivation can be more difficult and detrimental. His theories on post symbiosis reversion (species wide brain damage) are fascinating

As a former alcoholic it is also prevalent in quitting drinking. Your body has no idea how to actually go to sleep and the amount rem sleep that has been inhibited really fucks you up

This is really interesting…. I haven’t sleept much lately and this night i didn’t sleep at all.
This whole day has been really spiritual, most people would say not sleeping is bad for our brains but, I feel like it’s healing.

Been in a deep mediative state all day.
But it might just be mania (what ever that means) 😅

His experience won't reflect chronic severe sleep deprivation necessarily if he never slept "at all" because most of us won't experience that.
We can however experience severe sleep deprivation.

Many animals can put half of their brain asleep at a time, hopefully we find a way to do it too one day

What is this nonsense? Sleep is a gift and a sound sleep even more. Sleep problem is one of the worst ones to have and to think of not sleeping after a hard day of work is absolutely nonsense. maybe if i dont have anything to do with life then i might try going without sleep for weeks but a normal person doesnt need this nonsense

I was diagnosed as schizophrenic by a clinician after spending 90 days in solitary confinement during my sojourn as a guest of the state. Post release, I vowed to quit the free meds that weren't to my liking as soon as possible. Shortly after, I experienced a psychotic break where I was utterly convinced I had been poisoned, yet as I couldn't trust the hospital, I was content to let dearh take me. I survived by streaming music on the mobile although I came out a bit poorer having made preparations for my death. I still have a horrible obsession with bottled water

If I was a judgemental person I would take one look at this person and think he was crazy and wouldn't listen to a word he said
