What sucks more is that right after having one and then you close your eyes for a few seconds, the sleep paralysis continues.

“Don’t sleep on your back”
Pretty much every other doctor:
“Sleep on your back, it is good for your posture.”

I thought I was having sleep paralysis today because I heard footsteps and then I opened my eyes and saw a black figure right in front of me and I was panicking so hard, but turns out it was my mum asking for my phone at 1am in the morning.💀

The worst of it is realising that the only way out of sleep paralysis, is to go into a deeper state of sleep. To accept that although you're desperate to move & sit up, you have to relax back into deeper sleep, is terrifying! There are times when I feel like I'm suffocating!

"Get 7 to 8 hours of sleep nightly"
It be easier if I wasn't being woken up in the middle of the night with sleep paralysis

I struggled with this when I was a student, during exam period. The triggers that led me to developing sleep paralysis:
- Sleeping on my back *without* something covering me
- Being too cold
- Bright room
- Previous experiences with lucid dreaming
- Prolonged periods of high stress
- Certain vitamins to "boost focus"

It’s only happened to me a few times, but I hate it! Such a terrible feeling being fully aware of everything but not being able to move at all.

The best thing you can do when going through Sleep Paralysis is DO NOT PANIC. Once you start to panic, your anxiety will spike and the hallucination will get worse. Stay calm and try to wake up without struggling.

I've had sleep paralysis since I was a little kid. I'm 56. It took until I was in my 40s to learn that I could prevent it by sleeping on my side. No medical professional ever helped me or gave me any meaningful advice. I've looked up sleep paralysis on reputable medical websites and never seen the advice not to sleep on your back. This is the first time I've heard it. I'm glad I figured it out on my own before now. I spent a large portion of my life afraid of going to sleep.

I’ve actually had sleep paralysis so much, that I’ve actually just accepted it as a normal thing and don’t freakout anymore.

If you're in sleep paralysis, blink continuously very quickly to snap out of it.

It happens to me often. So much so that I gained the ability to force myself out of it. One method is trying to focus on a single point and trying to move that, second is something mental. Like one time I was aware it was happening and just went back happily knowing that nothing will happen so the fear just disappeared and I woke up instantly. Another time was when I thought a burglar was in the house while I was in sleep paralysis cuz I saw my door knob moving (locked) and I tried to get serious and shout/roar myself out of it
