Some people boast about being able to function on as little as hours of sleep. But is it necessarily good for you? Brad Stulberg, coauthor of "Peak Performance: Elevate your Game, Avoid Burnout and Thrive with the New Science of Success" explains why you should sleep more than four hours even if you don't feel tired.

Tech Insider tells you all you need to know about tech: gadgets, how-to's, gaming, science, digital culture, and more.

4 hours of sleep is not bad nor good, it depends how you do'it. I go to bed at 12:30 and fall sleep by 1:00 am and wake up by 5:00 am some exceptions at 4:00 am. If you make it a habit, you have good diet and you love what your doing is a piece of cake... With 4 hours of sleep my day is extremely productive and i always say a Man of success don't need much sleep.

I've been getting about 4-5 hours a sleep almost everyday for the past 5-ish years because of my insomnia, and I can easily feel the difference from back before. My memories worse, my mind feels slower, I always feel fatigued, etc. If you can get more than 4 hours of sleep you should. I'm in high school now, and that is not a good combo. If you are lucky enough to be able to get long rests, you should take it

Sleep 4 hours a day, but as soon as you wake up work out (simple push-ups, up/downs, jumping jacks will work) get the body active.
And sleep one hour during the day.
You'd be at peak performance believe me.

If only this would convince my workplace not to have us do multiple double shifts in a row. Only having enough time for 2-4 hours of sleep a day for several days straight is rough

Never thought it can be really that bad....
Students(in high schools and college) here in India hardly ever get 6 hours of sleep.

My friend sleeps for 4 hours a day and that is apparently the only way to get yourself good grades or admission into a good college. Only the guys who are too smart have the luxury of 6 hrs of sleep.

Well, crap. During junior year, I stayed up til like 3-4 am so I can get really good grades for my transcript. I don't regret my staying up, though.

Man, I believe it is your experience and now you think everyone is like you and has your needs.
I do sleep 4 hours at night and I wake up fresh and in good mood, way more creative and ready to do more than day before.
Plus if I have a day off and I sleep 8-12 hours, more or less as example I feel way more tired and I feel like I need more sleep.

It can be genetics or polyphasic sleep, or you can follow sleep cycles to manage your sleep hours. But as long as you sleep every day at same hour and wake up the same. You are totally fine. Mindset is everything, don't go to sleep stressed, if you want to wake up im good mood.

I have always been beware of this, but I never quite had the fact.
Thank you IT, now I can explain why to people who are saying "oh, I don't need much sleep, I just sleep 5 hours, and that's super fine by me"
