How to do an ACV Rinse
An apple cider vinegar rinse can really bring your waves and curls back to life if they haven't been behaving. When in doubt, it's best to consider doing an ACV Rinse.
It chelates your hair, removes product buildup, removes hard water minerals and pool water chemicals.
This is something that all hair types can do to remove buildup in general.
However, there's one caveat. I'm not going to recommend a 1:5 ratio of acv : water. I'm going to recommend a 1:20 ratio. In my practice of doing this for years, this is the ratio that works for me. Its gentle enough and not corrosive. Its potent enough to lower pH.
When doing an acv rinse, I use 50ml of acv and 1000ml or 1 litre of water.
Try to get acv with the mother. The mother is the sediment at the bottom of the acv jar.
You can do an ACV rinse once every 1.5 month.
In recent times, I've had to do them once every 3 washes.
This really brought my definition back.
When I do an ACV Rinse, I follow these steps:
Day 1: wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner
no squish to condish. no extra steps. apply and wash off
Day 2: Detangle my hair dry with a brush that is gentle
Then I do the ACV Rinse
After which I shampoo
Deep Condition
Style my hair
Hope you found this helpful.
