As a therapist specialising in the treatment of PTSD, I've seen many clients damaged by "trauma coaches". The whole field of coaching desperately needs regulated. Also, I'm so sick of coaches marketing themselves with manufactured vulnerability and by overdisclosing their own trauma.

This is actually hilarious, so many certificates! I was saving up to take a life coach course, but I was a mess and realized I could never help people in need cuz I was in need and couldn't help myself. Instead, I started therapy. I wish she would do that instead. As a person who's worked constantly on my own trauma and worked to not trauma dump on people, I truly hope she can get the help and therapy she obviously needs.

As someone who is currently pulling an all-nighter to hand in an assignment for my Counselling degree..3 years in..still 2 to go..working over 100hours in placement for FREE! Paying my own fees, paying for my own personal therapy, paying for my own supervision, paying for my own continued professional development!! This INFURIATES ME!!! How dare they…how dare these organisations! It’s so unethical, unprofessional and most of all dangerous to those people who are seeking genuine help for trauma! Hurts my heart.. thanks Chelsea, let’s stop these harmful, gross, UNPROFESSIONAL, pretend forms of therapy!

As an aside, there can be a huge danger with some life coaches marketing themselves as mental health experts whereby they are not bound by the same ethical and legal standards of actual licensed/registered mental health professionals. We appreciate you 💙

As a genealogist I absolutely lost it at the Genealogist certificate. (For the record, no coursework or credentials are required for genealogists, but some people choose to obtain credentials from the Board for Certification of Genealogists, which is a stringent review of their skills by experts.)

I was scammed by a life coach last year. Her 6-month program was $5, 000 which included two 1-hour Zoom calls per month and weekly homework from a Power of Intention curriculum. Her promise was that I would discover my life’s purpose which would manifest into a true career path. And I signed up based on a personal recommendation. Long story short: I worked her program for 2.5 months before having a nervous breakdown and quitting, and didn’t believe much of anything I was learning. No refunds!

I have an actual BS in coaching from an accredited university (as well as a BS in counseling and MA in Marriage and Family Therapy, and am a licensed therapist). These “coaches” drive me nucking futz. They have no idea what they’re doing.
