I appreciate the insight into the problem with demonizing 9-5 jobs to such a young demographic whose experience is only of the early stages of corporate jobs. I hadn’t ever thought of it like that. They aren’t for everyone, but there are more pros than someone who wants you to quit your job will acknowledge.

The crazy part is the number of coaches whom say “let me show you the strategies to get clients without cold DMs, or infiltrating Facebook groups, ” yet “coach” that exact strategy after you shell out your life savings to them.

Insightful, and for me a very honest account of how many coaches operate. I have encountered a few along my business career. Thankfully the first 2 coaches I ever invested in put me on the right path, and I can honestly say 1 piece of advice I received over a decade ago I still use today and it has helped me stay in business. Thank you both for a very balanced interview in my opinion. 😊

It's hilarious to me (as a serial entrepreneur) that people who've been on the planet for less then 3 decades, with no appreciable successes to be credible, actually hold themselves out as "coaches". 😂 The arrogance is stunning!

this was a really cool interview. i actually have a bachelor in life coaching and i'm doing masters in business coaching. it's a very experimental major, i'm in poland, and the whole industry is very new. a lot of scammers with weekend course... however i find it laughable how my classmates graduate at 21-25 and think they know everything there is 😭 i started that major when i was 22, even years later i still felt like i'm too green to even attempt to get ICF certification?
regarding mental health, we were taught to immediately stop coaching a client that had obvious issues? which always made me :/ bc a lot of people i met in that major, including profesors, were sadly ableist and i doubt they actually have any idea how to figure out a client has idk depression? 🤔 like they aren't mental health professionals? more often than not it's 'you need therapy, bye' when client isn't an "easy" case
from what i observed many of my classmates went on to work corporate jobs in hr, not many of them do actual coaching but still have 'life coach' in their ig bio 😬

The part of her story where the training was about "energy" was interesting. I want practical/tactical information when I take a class, and I would have been so disappointed if the class content turned out to be not at all what I thought I was paying for.

As a marketer and publicist of 12+ years, I can tell you that these so-called business coaches mostly use propaganda techniques. I suggest everyone familiarize themselves with these (Wikipedia has the whole list of them), especially ahead of the election season in the U.S. But chances are you’d be pretty disappointed with politics and a lot of marketing and advertising out there after knowing these tactics, lol.
