Should You Do Cardio Before Or After A Workout To Burn More Fat?

So while I was finishing up some cardio, I figured I'd give you guys a quick chat on how you should be timing your cardio. Should you be doing your cardio post-workout or pre-workout?

Well, in order to understand what you should or shouldn't do, you have to have a quick understanding of aerobic and anaerobic activity.

0:23 Aerobic activity is a low-intensity workout while anaerobic activity is a high-intensity workout.

Aerobic activity creates a lot of energy, and anaerobic activity needs more carbs to create the same amount of energy. It's a faster process, but it burns through carbs really fast. So essentially what I'm saying is, when you're doing your cardio, you're utilizing fat as a source of fuel and very little glucose, and when you're doing weight training or any kind of High Intensity Interval Training, you're utilizing carbs as a source of energy, and a lot less fat.

So should you do cardio after weight training?

When weight training, you're utilizing carbs as a source of fuel. When you're doing post-workout cardio, you're using fat as a source of fuel. You don't necessarily have to dig through the carbs to get to the fat...it's a little bit of a different system.

However, I am still a fan of doing your cardio post-workout, and I'll give you some reasons why.

mTOR is what is responsible for building muscle. But there's another enzyme that we have to pay attention to...

2:34 5'-adenosine monophosphate protein kinase (AMPK) is an enzyme that plays a role in cellular energy homeostasis, and studies have shown that aerobic activities increase AMPK, which decreases mTOR.

So resistance training becomes a lot less effective by having cardio done before-hand.

So this simply means, if you put your cardio at the end of your workout, you won't have to deal with those power reductions or mTOR signaling issues.

So long story short... If you do a work out before your second work out... You'll be more tired for your second work out... Wow... Mind blowing stuff... 😦😑

What if we’re doing calisthenics ( body weight training) cause it confuses me should I do it before or after my skill and strength training?

I do cardio before work.. lost 10 pounds in one month but to compensate I take pre work supplements.. is funny they are days I can’t do cardio because I feel drained.. I’m going to do it different and get back to you .we not all create equal.. lol

I think he says in a more recent video that it doesn't make a difference which you do first, if you wait a few hours in between.

Take the slow approach until you can go fast, and by the time youíre fast, youíll find the determination to go hard and then youíll be ready to train like an athlete so that you look like one. Give it time and always remember, ìSlow, steady progress is better than fast, daily excuses.

What if I was doing cardio in the morning? Like say burpees or high intensity training, and then weight lifting in the evening?

Sorry can you direct it to the point in lame mans term? Can I do cardio 1st then do a weight training... because I do 15km walk within 2hrs then after that I rest for an hour then do a weight training is that ok or not?...

Great video. Would closing your mTOR pathways so soon after weight training with AMPK enzymes affect protein synthesis, I mean would it be best to give it a little time after your post workout meal before cardio. Or is jumping straight into light cardio and closing off mTOR not going to make much difference by that point?

i would hope you can answre this, im a boxer i wake up at 6AM for a 30 min run then at 11AM i do body weight training then at 5-8PM i do boxing like: hitting the heavy bag, hitting the pads, sparring, and a little bit of runningto top it off is that a good scheduel and will i be able to build muscle?

how long after I have done weight-training should I wait to do cardio... the keyword is how long... there's not one single Youtube video on how long should I wait.... maybe you could be the first to answer a simple question.. should I wait an hour 2 hours 4 hours 5 hours or do it the next day... remember the keyword is how long.. be the first answer this
