as someone with npd this comment section is not it. im not a monster or an irredeemable monster. im just self aware and seeking help. npd isn't just "abuser disorder"

The problematic part is that these people, like my father don’t want to seek help, they see nothing wrong and would get overly angry if it would be brought up to seek help

For anyone with NPD, from someone with a different personality disorder: You are not inherently evil, you are not irredeemable. You have to take ownership of your disorder and work to learn new, healthier behaviors. It is hard, but you can do it. You deserve to love and be loved.

The part that’s hurts the most is that they really don’t realize the hurt their causing people and never will

I specially liked the last part, where you emphasize the importance of having the same empathy and compassion for people with NPD that one has for people with other mental health issues. Good psych espresso!

Anybody else with NPD here? Every time I see a comment section for these videos it’s almost exclusively people who don’t have it or are bitter towards someone who has it

Very interesting and very helpful, the first step for a person who is showing signs of a Narcissistic personality is for them to recognise that they have an issue that needs help, but sadly many don’t get past this first hurdle and bumble along in life thinking everybody else is the problem.

Sounds too much like me, I didnt even realise. The worst part is that I cant have calm sleep unless I overwork myself to the point when its unhealthy to make sure that others value me, my work and they see me as someone valuable. My status is way too important for me, more than it should be. Nice to know, thanks

My daughter, who is battling cancer, has narcissistic behaviours that are so much worse as she faces her own mortality. When we should be connecting more at this time, its almost impossible.I hang in, as her mother, but its taking a toll on me. I just want to hold her but everyday theres some drama, and I am so triggered, I cant be around her. I am heart broken, yet aware she is in constant acute pain without adequate pain relief, terrified, afraid for her teenage son, and her brother who is watching his closest and only friend suffer. I have no idea how to deal with this, no support, no services just day after day of her pain, paranoia, anger, resentment, need. All I can do is pray, and who knows if that works, but I have nothing else to turn to. My daughter has had a hard life, and sadly, it looks like it will be a hard death.

Finally, a video about NPD that doesn’t demonize and hate on them. I do get that they may negatively impact others, but they’re still people
Edit: I should have phrased my comment more sympathetically to those suffering from a narcissist and more specifically to narcissists who do seek help. I also lived under a narcissistic parent, but I was lucky enough to have a support system who encouraged them to get help and change substantially to the point that we now have a good relationship.

Just saying “Sorry, I’m just a narcissist” is not an excuse to treat others poorly.

The idea that we should "destigmatise" harming others and having a lack of empathy is just wild to me.

Narcissism has become so common nowadays that its isn't considered as mental illness by most people because almost everyone has it. Some have it more while others have it less.
The scary thing about narcissism is that people who have it more don't seek help because they think they are always right. Narcissism has destroyed families, relationships and even countries if your leader is a narcissist.

Our son’s ex wife Alanna Clarkson has this problem & she is very abusive mentally and physically. She beat up her oldest son when he was 2 years old because she got mad at him, about 5 years old she choked him trying to kill him. Also beat our son up in front of the 3 kids 3 years ago in Langford BC. Not the first time she has beat him. Our son had to get help for the abuse he’s gone thru the past 10 years.

My narcissist friend abused me emotionally for 2 long years.. Now I find very hard to trust ppl and help ppl... I wish I had never met him.. Man I hate that person
Before you try to guilt trap me I'm just gonna let you know i tried to give him many chances but he failed me in every single one of them
